W2 - Galveston Chaiber of Commerce - 12/9/63
uses and wants indigent cases as clinical material in its
program of teaching.
Failure of Galveston bounty and certain adjoining
counties to assume the reasonable cost of hosnitalization
and medical treatment has been, and may continue to be, a
deterrent to more liberal, maybe even necessary, aprropria-
tion from the legislature and Regents of the University of
Texas. Calveston County will as a whole also reap benefits
from an equitable policy.
While not strictly within the province of its Medical
Center Committee, the Chamber of Commerce should bend its
efforts towards action by the Federal Government in extending
the decided and evident need of increasing the capacity of
the Publie Health Service rHosnital at Galveston. Your chair-
man has taken the matter up with Congressman Thompson. The
Chamber could undoubtedly be of greater influence if they
undertake direction of our two hited states senators and
the heads of such departments who control the matter.
Yours very truly,
Chairman, Chamber of ommerce
Medical Center Coimittee
