The amendment which probably will
be incorporated in the Aldrich -Pay ne
tariff bill is Senator Bailey s, with two
changes suggested by Senater Cum-
mins of Iowa. The first change sub-
stitutes 2 per cent for 3 per cent as the
rate of the tax on incomes in excess of
$5,000 a year, and the other relates to
the method of reimbursing inividnais
who, as stockholders of corporations,
lose part of that Income by reason ot
the corporation paying an income tax.
Senators Bailey and 4Curmins now are.
in ar ord on the propositlon, perfecting

a vote on the same day.
After some discussion, senator Ald-
rich moved ta fl* June LB for the con-
siderajion oj the income tax amend-
ment. senalor Bailey demande th«
ayes and noes, which resulted th Torty-
five votes for the Aldrich motion and
thirty-four against it The vote was
not a surprise to the income taxers for
the reason that some Republicans who
will vote for the amendment when it is
submitted supports the Aldrich post-
ponement motion on the ground that
they want the woolen schedule out of
the way before taking up the income
tax amendment. For example, Senators
Nelson, Dick, Dupont, Burton, Jones,
Clapp, Dolliver and Guggenheim, who
voted for the Aidrich motion, are
claimed as favoring the Income tax
proposition
Republicans who voted with Senator
Bailey against postponement were Bo-
rah, Bourne, Bristow, Cummins, La
Follette and Piles.. Hence, it is obvious
that these Republicans voting with the
Democrats can adopt the inoomo tax
amendment.

the residents of this section, were the
means of probably saving many lives
last night. Clouds with cyclonic for-
mations were seen late in the afternoon
and early last night, and the people
with the recollections of the Zephyr
disaster •till fresh in mind, wert imto
their storm houses, and when the storm
did break the • were but few who wer#
in a position to be injured.
At Leuders the storm was particu-
larty severe, and a cyclone struck four
miles north of there destroying prop-
erty and killing several persons. A
man believed to be a swede named An-
derson, and is wife, were caught
asleep in their home by the storm and
were instantly killed. Three other
persons in the immediate vicinity Were
seriously injured. Ten houses are re-
ported destroyed
At this place a two-story house near
the Texas Central tracks was complete-
ly destroyed, the inmates being saved
by getting into ther storm cellar just
before the storm broke Many hor5ee
and males were killed and in the path
of the cyclone the ground is ploughed
up and crops destroyed.
Foard county was visited by the
same storm, apparently, and much dam-
age is reported from various parts of
the county. Crowell reports that a
heavy cyclonic storm struck near there,
the path of the storm extending from
within four miles of that place to be-
yond the Pease river. In the Marsarette
country and at Medline Mounds much
property damage is reported but no fa-
talities. Some stock was killed by th#
lightning and the heavy hall storm
which accompanied the storm. At
Crowell there was one of the heaviest
rains that town has ever known, parts
of tbe town being flooded and consid-
erable property loss is reported from

Stormhouse,
Haskell, Texas, June 11.— (Special.)
One of the worst storms in the history
of Haskell county occurred last night
when the family of R- 8. Middleton,
living four miles east of Haskell, was
almost wiped out* The cloud came up
from the north, and Middleion. with bls
wife and a 4-days’-old infant and six
children, besides a neighbors girl, al*
sought refuge in a rather rlimsily con-
structed stormhouse, which had been
recently built, and around which the
fresh earth had not yet settled. The
dugout was about forty or fifty feet
west of south of the house. The force
of the wind picked up the dwelling and
railway. The deiegatra have heen 'C.
