4-H Adult Leader visits are
always rewarding and helpful
to the Extension Agents, and
hopefully, these visits are
helpful to the leaders, also.
This week, leaders in the
New Summer fie Id, Joe Wr-
ight, Clover Leaf, West Side,
Ponta, and Linwood 4-H Clubs
were contacted.
During these visits, 4-H
Contests were discussed.Th-
ose leaders who had 4-H'ers
in contests this year helped
evaluate their 4-H'ers de-
monstrations. Also plans are
being made for contests next
year.
Mr. Ld Missildine of Route 5, Palestine, and Mrs. B, Missil-
dine of Dallas, announce the engagement of rheir daughter,
Betty Kathleen, to David I ynn I.usk, son of Mr. and Mrs,
William L. I.usk of Roiite 1, Palestine, former residents of
Rusk. Miss Missildine and her fiance are presently attending
Henderson County Junior College in Athens, where they are
both freshmen. A June wedding is planned.
In talking with Mrs. Terry
Perkins of Ponta, it was
learned that her daughter,
Karen, is planning to enter
her 4-H Record Book in the
Santa Pe Awards Program.
Karen, who is completing her
freshman year at Tyler Jun-
ior College, is one of Cher-
okee County's outstanding 4-H
club members, Her record
book will include everything
that she has done in 4-H.
It will compete in the Dis-
trict Judging in July and hope-
fully go on to State Com-
petition to vie for a trip
to National 4-H Club Con-
gress in Chicago.

grandaughter, Christie Gene
Yates. The young lady was
born in a Grapeland hospital
on Mother's Day, May 8.

lie remembered as the former
Miss'Tana Hassell.

The New Summerfield Home
Economics teacher, Mrs.
Bonnie O'Neal, had five stu-
dents to participate in the
Adam's Extract Bake-Off
Contest. A 4-H'er in the New
Summerfield Club, Deenan
Lott, won the Contest. She
will participate in further
competition with her Bake-
Off winner, "Cherry Dream
Boat". Deenan's Cherry cake
was cut and decorated to re-
semble a sail boat.
The Joe Wright 4-H Club
met Tuesday, May 3 in the
Joe Wright School Cafeteria.
Tasha Simpson, president,
called the meeting to order
at 7 p.m. Debbie Davis, se-
cretary, called the roll and
read the minutes of the Ap-
ril meeting. Bobby Abel,
Council Delegate, reported on
the 4-H Council Meeting.

The program was present-
ed by Steve Hesterly and Ch-
arles Nunnally. They gave
their blue ribbon winning de-
monstration, "Farm Manage-
ment".
Mrs. Paul Glass, Mrs. Mar-
vin Lanier and Mrs. M. D.
Nunnally reported on the 4-H
Clothing Project meetings and
the 4-H Livestock project
meeting-. Mrs, Harold Simp-
son and Mrs. Paul Glass led
recreation.
The New Summerfield 4-H
Club met Thursday, April 5
in the New Summerfield Sc-
hool. 1 ydia Lott, president,
called the meeting to order
3;45 p.m. The secretary,
LaNelle Clifton, called the
roll and read the minutes
of the April meeting. The re-
sults of the Club'1- money-
making project were discus-
sed. The 4-H Dress Revue
was mentioned. All of the
girls present seemed inter-
ested in participating.
The Assistant County Agent
was in charge of the pro-
grain. He discussed Poison-

FORT HOOD,TEX. (AHTNC)
—Army Pvt. Melvin Session,
son of Mr. and Mrs. R, L,
Session, Route 2, Box 77D,
Rusk, Tex., was his com-
pany's high scorer on the
physical proficiency test held
at the end of his basic train-
ing cycle at Fort Hood, Tex.,
April 25.
The rigid test, based on sk-
ills that require coordination
and endurance, is designed to
evaluate a soldier's physical
capabilities and to determine
whether he has the stamina
needed in battle.
The 19-year-old soldier, a
1965 graduate of G. W. Brad-
ford High School in Rusk,was
employed by Sky Harbor,
Phoenix, Ariz., before enter-
ing the Army in January 1966.
