26 Saturday
From the Capitol city of the
state of Texas, the St. Edward’s
University freshman will find that
he receives a friendly “Howdy.”
Austin, known as the Friendly
City, will be the home, at least for
nine months, to the frosh now
registering on the Hill. To give
some of the facts on the enter-
tainment and features of the fos-
ter-home, the Hilltopper staff has
taken advantage of the Austin
Chamber of Commerce to present
some of the information.
After a few weeks, all the fresh-
men will have been initiated into
the theatre group, but a few
points are important. One of the
most popular theatres for St. Ed’s
students is the Austin theatre
which is just down Congress Ave.
It is just a good walk and offers
fairly recent movies at reasonable
prices. The art theatre in Austin
is the Texas Theatre on the Drag.

Marine Captain
To Interview
All Students
Captain Noble, U. S. Marine
Corps Officer Procurement Office
will visit St. Edward’s University
Wednesday and Thursday to in-
terview students from 8 to 11:30
and 1 to 4:30 who are interested
in officer training in the Marine
Corp.
Capt. Noble will interview in-
terested students in the foyer of
the Library and Administration
Building.
Most popular of the programs
for students is the Platoon Lead-
ers Class which is open to quali-
fied college freshmen, sophomores,
and juniors. It allows a student to
remain in college until he receives
his degree at which time he will
be commissioned a second lieuten-
ant in the Marine Corps Reserve.
There is no interference with regu-
lar academic studies during the
school year, but the applicant
must attend two six-week summer
training periods.
The Officer Candidate Course is
open to qualified college seniors
and graduates. After receiving his
degree and upon satisfactory com-
pletion of one ten-week training
period, the applicant is commis-
sioned a second lieutenant in the
Marine Corps Reserve.
