The old law of physics that
says two objects can’t occupy the
same position will be forced into
effect when Tex Wright’s Neki
Hokey Nine and Jim Krider’s Has
Been team clash in the most vital
intramural softball game of the
current campaign.
Eagles-Goof Offs
In perhaps the best game played
so far in the intramural softball
league, the Eagles went one extra
inning to trip the Goof Offs, 8-7.
Dick Weed rapped out a double
in the last of the seventh to tie
up the game at 6-6, but the Goof
Offs scored one in the top of the
eighth to lead again 7-6. However
the Eagles were not to be denied,
and they tallied twice in the latter
part of the eighth to win.
Has Beens-Savages
The Has Beens scored six in
the first, and were never headed
as they walloped the Sorin Savages
14-2, behind the effective two-hit
Bill Dixon and Ed
fani, and Lee will run the 100,
while Kirkhoff and Stump are en-
tered in the 220 yard sprint. Kirk-
hoff copped second in this event
last year. Lema and Scalfani will
compete in the 440 yard run.
Lema holds the conference record
in this event. He set it in his
freshman year when the meet was
held in Brownwood.
In distance events, Popp, George
Hernandez, and Joe Nieto will run
the half-mile, Bob Longoni and
Hernandez the mile, and Ismael
Fayad, Ron Bella, and Barry Sul-
livan will go in the two-mile run.
Field events will have Bella put-
ting the shot, Lee heaving the dis-
cus, while Scalfani and Ray Bour-
geois will try their luck at tossing
the javelin. Tom Gore, Bourgeois,
and Hernandez are entered in the
broad jump, and Gore and Stump
will be high jumpers.

St. Edward’s University will
send a fourteen man track and
field team to the fourth annual
Big State Conference meet in San
Antonio Saturday at Alamo
Heights Stadium.
Other squads entered in the one
day affair are defending cham-
pion St. Mary’s, who amassed 63
points last year, East Texas Bap-
tist College, runner-up last year
with 56 points, Pan American Col-
lege, and Texas Wesleyan. Pre-
liminary heats in the dashes and
most of the field events will be
run off beginning at 10:30 p.m.
St. Ed’s, who took third last
year with 37 points, is expected
to fare best in the two relay races.
Running on the 440 are A. R.
Lema, Don Stump, and freshmen
Frank Scalfani and George Lee.
Lema and Stump will team up
with Bob Kirkhoff and' Albert
Popp for the mile relay.
Lodes, and a big nine run third
inning ruined the Eagles as the
Scholastics took a 12-8 marathon.
Neki Hokey-Savages
Tex Wright turned in a no-hit
no-run game and walloped a
grand slam homerun to boot, as
his Neki Hokey nine whitewashed
year’s batting race are Tom
Cuchra and Vince Soler, two
sharp looking freshmen base-
bailers that should help Hilltopper
teams for a number of years to
come. Cuchra, who swings from

Scalfani was the only Savage who
was able to solve the fast-ball of-
ferings of Krider. He gathered
both hits.
Scholastics-Late Comers
Brother Aloysisus Glombowski,
CSC, pitched and batted the Vin-
cent Hall Scholastics to a crushing
19-2 victory over the Late Corners.
Besides hurling a neat three-hitter
and striking out seven, Brother
Aloysisus clubbed out 4 for 4 at
the plate, including a solo homer
in the sixth.

the Sorin Savages 16-0, in a game
mercifully called at, the end of
five innings.
Has Beens-Scholastics
Jim “Smoky” Krider spun a
nifty four-hitter as the Has Beens
whipped the Scholastics, 15-3.
Brothers Alfred Ledet, CSC, and
Aloysisus Glombowski, CSC, had
their offerings torn apart for 14
hits by the hard hitting Has
Beens.
Has Beens-Goof Offs
In an abbreviated contest called
at the end of four inning of play,
the Has Beens backed by the bril-
lient one-hit pitching of Tom Gore
clipped the Goof Offs, 15-2.
Neki Hokey-Scholastics
Tex Wright, the proud possessor
of a blazing fast ball, sent a dozen
unhappy Scholastic batters back
to the bench on third strikes, and
gave up only a third inning single,
as he hurled the Neki Hokey nine
past the Brothers from Vincent
Hall, 9-3. Wright, who threw a
perfect no-hit game in his last
outing against the Savages, also
blasted his third homerun of the
season, in the sixth with one on.
