Rusk's Fighting Eagles lost
, a heart-breaker to class AAA
, Crockett Friday night at Mu-
sick Stadium. Coach Doyle
, Brooks' Feathered Flock
fought the heavier Crockett
team off their feet, but lost
the ball game in the closing
seconds.
Crockett scored first on a
kick-off return in the open
lng seconds. The Bulldogs
hit pay dirt again when they
caught Eagle back Ronnie Mc-
Gowan behind the goal to build
their lead to 10-0.
The. Birds came back strong,
however with three touch-
downs before ha If. time.
Tony Watson went over from
inside the five for the first
Eagle TD to complete 65yard
drive. Eagle sophomore back
Bobby Lockhart looked ex-
ceptionally good.
At half time, the Eagles
went to the dressing room
holding a 20-10 lead over the
surprised Bull Jogs from
Crockett.
The Bulldogs came back
strong in the 3rd period and
went ahead.
Jackie Foster blocked a punt,
and raced in for the Eagles'
go-ahead TD midway of the
4th quarter.
Crockett began a despera-
tion drive that was stopped
when Tommy Terrell inter-
cepted a Bulldog pass, With
around a minute left on the
clock, the Eagles fumbled a-
round their 40 yard line.
A long pass was completed
by Crockett that gave the Bull-
dogs the winning TD.
A flat zone pass by Tony Wat-
son was intercepted by Crock-
ett to set up their final TD
on the last play of the game.
"It was a fine team effort
by our boys," smiled Coach
Doyle Brooks.
Rusk coachc- praised the
work of Marcus Haskell,Den-i
pis Slaton, Floyd McGowan
and Jackie Foster on defense.
Offensive player standouts
were Bobby Lockhart, Floyd
McGowan and Tony Watcon.
"We are working on passing
attack this week." said coach
Brooks.

Rusk has an open date Fri-
day night. Their next game is
with Westwood here. This will
be the Flock's first district
encounter. m-
Headhunter awards were
given to Tommy Terrell for
his fine defensive play in the
backfield, Dennis Slaton,
Floyd McGowan and Jackiel
Foster were giventheir se-
cond awards of the young sea-
son. Marcus Hassell was a-
warded his first for outstand-
ing play ag -st Crockett.
Rusk 9th graders and B
teams will plav We't Rusk
here Thursday afternoon.
First game starts at 5 p.m.
and the B teams will tangle
around 7 p.m.
The 8th frade team goe~ to
Gaston for a game.

Former Resident
Marries In Okla.
Miss Raye Rainer, formerly
of Rusk, and Harry S. Mar-
melstein of New York City
were married Sept. 21 in Ok-
lahoma City.
Mrs. Marmelstein has rais-
ed and showed many breeds
of dogs including a champion
male from the Balu Kennel
and is presently associated
with a show organization in
Oklahoma City.
After the first of the year,
they will make their home in
New York City.
