“That’s perfectly all right,” said the neighbor,
“and I have an idea about this party-line busi-
ness. Most of our calls aren’t too important.
Why don’t we all agree when any one of us has
an important call that we will ask for the line?”
“That’s a wonderful idea,” said Mrs. White.
So they all agreed, and service on that party
line has been fine ever since.

ordinary house spray gun may be
used. The baseboard, door and
window cases should be wet al-
most to the running point with
the spray. Give the cracks an ex-
tra dose of the recommended soil
and chlordane solution.
It should be remembered that
chlordane is poisonous. Food,
dishes and cooking utensils should
be taken out of the kitchen, or
put where the spray cannot reach
them, until after the spray has
settled. If these directions are
followed, the killer will be safe.
The chlordane works on out-
door ant colonies as well as those
on the inside. For ants in the
lawn, a dust of 5 per cent chlor-
dane is good, while red ant col-
onies can be killed with a tea cup
full of 2 or 3 per cent solution.
One treatment usually is enough
to kill the ant nest.

New Ant Killer, ,
Chlordane, Is
Better Than DDT
There is a new ant killer on the
market called chlordane, which
is a more efficient killer for ants
and roaches than DDT. However,
the directions for its use must be
followed carefully as it is pois-
onous.
Of course, the best way to get
rid of ants is to follow the trail
back to the colony or nest and put
the poison there. But this is not
easy to do, since the insects some-
times nest in the foundations or
walls of houses, or in other
