position. The Eagles should have
little trouble unless the Cougars
rebound from their 21 to 13 lick-

Austin last week.
A non-conference contest will
find Stephen F. Austin, tied for
third with Trinity in the confer-

Richard Nutt of North Texas
scored another touchdown last
week to maintain his 13-point ad-
vantage over Gerald Levermann,
Trinity runnerup, in the scoring
race. Nutt has 55 points.

in District 5 among Denison, Par-
is, Greenville, and Sherman.
This week finds Amarillo play-
ing Pampa, Austin meeting Bow-
ie, Breckenridge engaging
Brownwood and Henderson tak-
ing on Texarkana.
In District 5 two of the leaders
get together as Denison battles
Greenville.
The defeat of Alamo Heights
in District 4 of the City confer-
ence was the major surprise of
last week’s play. Alamo Heights
had beaten Brackenridge, the fa-
vorite, and had been regarded in
most quarters as the most likely
state champion. Jefferson
trimmed the Mules 20-15.
The list of undefeated, untied
teams in the state was cut to four
as Sweetwater fell before Odessa
28-12. This result incidentally ap-
parently handed the District 3
Class AA championship to Odes-
sa.
Unbeaten and untied now are
Port Arthur, Waco, Henderson
and Amarillo. Undefeated buttled
are Baytown, Milby (Houston),
Alice, Lamar (Houston) and Ar-
lington Heights (Fort Worth).

Leaders in Lone
Star Conference
Get Rest This Week
By The Associated Press
None of the leaders will clash
this week in the Lone Star con-
ference and Southwest Texas
State will use Sam Houston State
as a means of clinching a tie for
the championship.
The unbeaten Bobcats meet
winless Sam Houston at Hunts-
ville Saturday night and by tak-
ing this game could insure at least
half the title because they then
could lose their remaining game
and still close out in a deadlock
for first place with North Texas
State.
One homecoming game is
scheduled in the conference this

DALLAS, Nov. 8 (A) — Two
backs tagged the brightest school-
boy stars in Texas last week will
match skill this week.
Jerry Norton of Texarkana and
O’Neal Brightwell of Henderson
were singled out in Dallas News’
roundup of schoolboy stars as top
performers last week. Friday
night, Texarkana and Henderson
tangle and the District 8-AA title
is at stake.
Norton led Texarkana to a 26-
14 victory over Marshall. He
scored three touchdowns, kicked
one extra point and passed for
another. His first touchdown was
on a 90-yard run.
Brightwell scored three times
as undefeated, untied Henderson
routed Kilgore 46-0. One of his
tallies came on a 78-yard return
of an intercepted Kilgore pass.
Others submitted by sportswrit-
ers over the state for star rating
were:
James Moblev, Odessa back:
Turned in touchdown runs of 67
and 68 yards as Odessa beat prev-
iously unbeaten, untied Sweet-
water, 28-12.
Bubba Bowman, Alamo Heights
(San Antonio) back: Pitched two
touchdown passes and passed for
an extra point, gained 75 of his
team’s 114 yards rushing on 17
carries, completed 13 of 25 passes
for 94 yards and had a 34.5 punt-
ing average. He also intercepted a
pass but all of that was not’
