Streamline Government
Favored by States
OLYMPIA, Wash. (U.R)—The job
of running a state government is
being streamlined in many states
by arming the governor with a
staff of management specialists.
The set-up operates like a large-
scale business.
That was shown in a survey by
the University of Washington as a
guide for changing the structure
of Washington’s government.
States generally are transferring
management duties from elective
to appointive officials, responsible
to the governor, the report
showed.
Elective officials cannot be
changed. Governors are being
given increased power to appoint
and remove officials, and are, in
turn, responsible for getting things
done.
