Sergeant Lowery H. Crawford,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin
Crawford. Reklaw, Tex., has
been named North American
Air Defense's Noncommis-
sioned Officer at Elmendorf
AFB, Alaska.
Sergeant Crawford, a ground
radar superintendent, was
selected for his outstanding
duty performance, leadership
and exemplary conduct. He is
assigned to the 5005th Civil
En g i neer i ng Ma i n t en a nc t
Squadron, a unit of the Alaskan
Air Command.
A 1953 graduate of Rusk
(Tex.) High School, he attend-
ed Stephen F. Austin State
College.
The sergeant's wife. Donna,
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
L. H. Evans, Rt. 4, Rusk.

Entertainment was provided

Alexander family. Singing
gospel music were Mr. and
Mrs. Billy Helm and Phylena
and Wayne Alexander and
daughter Tammy. They were
accompanied by Mrs. Norman
Alexander.

At Stock Show in Fort Worth
FORT WORTH-Miss
Frances Stover of Rusk will be
amont 75 young women
participating in the Invita-
tional Ranch Girls Barrel Race
during the 1974 Fort Worth
Stock Show Rodeo Jan. 25
through Feb. 3.
Riding under sponsorship of
Rex Cauble Ranches of
Denton, she will be racing
against the hands of the clock
in four go-rounds scheduled
during the 20 performances of
the "World's Original Indoor
Rodeo" in Will Rogers Col-
iseum.
With the Fort Worth Rodeo's
"invitational policy,"
audiences are assured that
only the most skilled competi
tors will run the cloverleaf
pattern of barrels in the rodeo
arena.
Riding in colorful costumes
with their sights on a share of
the $6,450 race purse, the
young women and their fast
horses have become a favorite
with Stock Show Rodeo
crowds.
Each racer is sponsored by a
ranch, city or town. Big
winner in the 1973 event was
Karen McCauley of Cypress,
Texas, who rode for Oak View
Ranch at Spring, Texas
Other action events at the
rodeo will include bareback
bronc riding, steer wrestling,
saddle bronc riding, calf
roping, bull riding and the
excitement ot the Wild Horse
Race. Top cowboys will try
their hand for a piece of the
$90,(KM) rodeo purse.
Featured entertainment at
each performance of the rodeo
will be Tanya Tucker, 15-year-
old recording star of Columbia
Records. Backed by her own
band, Tanya will be singing her
hit recordings of "Delta
Dawn," "What's Your Mama's
Name," "Jamestown Ferry,
"Blood Red and Going Dowft,
and other favorites.

Worth Rodeo are available by
mail from the Southwestern
Exposition and Fat Stock

I am a native of Alto. I was
born and raised here and
graduated i.om Alto High
School. I was born in 1931, and
served 3 years in the Armed
Service, and one of the three
years was spent in Korea. Iam
married and reside here in
Alto, my present occupation is
a rancher. I believe I am

elected will try my best to do a
good job.

Morris Dixon issued the$
following formal statement:
I am a life-long resident of
Cherokee County, Texas. I was
born and reared in the Jones
Chapel Community west of
Alto and attended high school'
in Alto. My father was the late *
Will Dixon and mother is Mrs.
Betty Hendricks Dixon. She •"
still lives in the Jones Chapel >
Community. I am married to v
the former Maggie B. Dilliard
and we have two children,
Morris *R. Dixon of Dallas,
Texas and ('lárice Regena
Bingham of Rusk, Texas.
In World War II, I served ip
the U.S. Army for 25 months, 19 ^
months of such service was in
the South Pacific. I was y*
honorably discharged with the
rank of Staff Sergeant.
I have been engaged in
farming and ranching in "
Cherokee, County since my
discharge from military ser- '•
vice and, additionally, for the
past 20 years have been
employed at the Rusk State .
Hospital.
1 was one of the original '
incorporators of the Salem
Water Supply Corporation and ,
after its organization served as ,
its Secretary-Treasurer and
operator of the water system ,
until it merged with the Rusk
Rural Water Supply Corpora- „
tion in 1973, and presently .
serve as Vice President and .
Secretary of the latter cor- „
poration.
I am an active member and a ,
director of the Cherokee .
County Farm Bureau.
My wife and I are members
of the First Baptist Church of
Rusk, Texas.
In submitting my candidacy
to the voters of Precinct No. 2,
1 wish to state that I feel I have .
the qualifications and ability to ,
.serve you in this important
office. I know that the ,
Commissioners Court is one of
the most important govern-
mental bodies and I assure you
that I will always keep the best
interests of the people and
CheroKeeCounty in mind whiJa
serving in this office. I know
how to cooperate with other
persons in public office and
will always strive to make this
•ounty a better place to live
and raise our families. I am a *
businessman and will seek to
perform my duties, if elected
in a business-like and practical
way.
