bonfire and pep rally marked
the end of a chapter in their
lives. Traditions, such as these

Wednesday
Mrs. Jack Pinson hosted the
Wednesday Social Club Wed-
nesday afternoon at the
Pineview Restaurant. Mrs.
G.H. Thomas presided.
Members present were Miss

Coats, W W. Finley, Charlie
Marshall. W.H. Hanna, A.S.
Moore, C.F. Mehner, Jack
Pinson, G.H. Thomas, J.C.
Turney, J. E. Wallace, Frank

Edwin Dickey.
After four games of "42"
Mrs Wallace held high score
for club members. Mrs.
Wallace and Mrs. Dickey each
received silver bracelets.
The Thanksgiving theme
was used in the table
decorations. The tables were
covered with brown linen
cloths and centered with small
walnut decorative bowls filled
with cashew nuts, miniature
fish crackers and mints. Other
refreshments of cream chicken
in pastry cups, fruit salad,
assortment of petit fours and
coffee were served.
Play for Pay
Winners Are
Announced
The annual Football Contest,
sponsored by The Cherokeean
and Rusk's friendly merchants
concluded last week.
First place goes to Miss
Joanna Williams and she will
receive $7.50. Joanna's broth-
er, John C. Williams III took
third place and will receive $3.
The second place money of $5
will be awarded to Mrs.
Dorothy Fitts.
Rusk Folks
Mrs. John McLeod and
grandson Robert Beasley spent
the weekend in Irving with her
son-in-law and daughter Mr.
and Mrs. E.C. Barnes.
Mr. and Mrs. James P.
Richards attended the football
game at Fairfield Friday night
and then went to College
Station for a weekend visit with
their son Jimmy and daughter
Debra.
Dr. James A. Hunter has
been named acting superin-
tendent of Rusk State Hospital
pending the arrival of Dr.
Robert Sheldon, newly-
appointed superintendent. Dr.
Sheldon is due to assume his
duties as new superintendent.
Dr. Lex T. Neill, who
resigned his superintendency
post earlier this year, is on
terminal leave status from the
hospital.
Dr. Hunter has been with the
hospital since 1967. He has
been director of the Maximum
Security Unit since that time.
The official has 16 years of
administrative experience.
He served as a commission-
ed officer with the U. S. Public
Health Service for 26 years, is
a 1936 graduate of Baylor
University, and received his
Doctor of Medicine Degree

the study of land owned by the
city, of which a portion might
be offered for sale to provide
the needed finances. The
chairman was requested to
submit a letter to City Mayor
Morris W. Hassell to this
effect.
The board chairman report-
ed a recent meeting with
representatives from the Tex-
as Highway Department with
regard to construction of the
park road which has been
staked.
The board also approved an
application for permanent
electrical service by the
Cherokee County Electric
Cooperative Association to
serve the park's maintenance
building.
Members heard a report
from project supervisor Rob-
ert Moses concerning the
removal of top soil in the
camper site areas, to be filled
with gravel as a base for that
portion of the park to be used
by overnight campers. "We
will use the top soil in other
places at the park. The gravel
will go toward establishing a
five inch base for easy driving
accessibility in these areas,"
he said.
Moses also reported the need
for more rocks in the
construction of columns in the
activity center building located
by the side of the lake
Present for the ¿rssion in the
Community Room of First
State Bank were board
members Kelley, Richards,
meyers. Whitehead, Mrs.
Mary Buchanan. Frank Sum-
mers and Johnnie McKay, also
Mrs l-'lorian and Moses
from The University of Texas
at Galveston in 1940. He served
a rotating internship at John
Sealy Hospital in Galveston.
The administrator was a
member of Admiral Richard
Byrd's expedition to Anarctica
in 1946-47.
Currently, the doctor is a
member of several profession-
al organizations, including the
American Medical Associ-
ation, Texas Medical Associ-
ation and the American
Psychiatric Association. He is
past president of the Cherokee
County Medical Society and of
the Rusk Chapter of the Rotary
Club. He is presently Rotary
Club secretary.
Dr. Hunter and his wife,
Marge, are parents of a large
family including children Kirk,
Jim, Lucy, Kathleen, John,
Joann, Robert, T. J., Mary and
Bill. They are members of the
First Baptist Church.
