Rural Youth Day at the State
Fair of Texas, Dallas, and the
State Fair Award Dinner was all
one could wish for on the 75th an-
niversary of the State Fair.
Vivian Warmin ski, award winner
for District One, and I, and also
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Warminski
arrived at the beautiful Statler-
Hilton Hotel in time for a one
o’clock lunch in the Grill on Fri-
day, Oct. 14. Then on we went to
a meeting with 4-H officials. The -
banquet was in the Grand Ball-
room of the hotel at 7:00 p.m. The
decorations were blue and gold and
very elaborate.
Dr. J. W. Edgar, Commissioner
of Education, Texas Education
Agency, gave the address. James
W. Ashton presented the honor
award medals to the girls and
boys. After the presentation of
awards, Jack Caldwell and his or-
chestra’ played for the Friendship'
Party and dance which lasted un-
til midnight.
On Saturday the boys and girls
swarmed the Fair grounds 100,000
strong. Food was top priority, mn
Fair officials said the supply was —
4% tons of frankfurters and buns,
190 gallons of mustard, 38,000 pack-
ages of potato chips and 7,150 gal-
lons of pop. This was furnished
free to the boys and girls attend-
ing the Fair on Rural Youth Day.
The cost to the Fair officials was
said to be $30,000.
