There are many low and moder-
ate income rural families living in
sub-standard housing in ' Carson,
Moore, Potter and Randall coun-
ties. This need not be the case as
housing credit is available from
the Farmers Home Administration
according to John B. Henry, Coun-
ty Supervisor.
The FHA office in Amarillo has
been able to provide assistance to
' numerous families through the
FHA program. One family in par-
ticular stands out: “An elderly
couple in danger of losing their
home, built in 1962 when the hus-
band was iable to work; his health
failed and the monthly house pay-
ments of $78.80 could not be met
from Social Security benefits. They
became delinquent and were re-
quested to pay the loan in full.
Due to his age and health, money
was not available from conven-
tional credit. Farmers Home Ad-
mnistration refinanced the loan
and the payments were reduced to
$34.00 per month, enabling them to
keep their home.”
Farmers Home Administration
housing loans are made to families
unable to obtain credit from pri-
vate sources at reasonable rates
and terms and are tailored to in-
dividual needs. They can be made ,
in the rural countryside or in
towns up to 5,500 population. ;

Today, Savings Bonds are a better investment than
ever. Now they pay 414 % when held to maturity. And
new Freedom Shares pay a full 5% when held to
maturity.
Freedom Shares are still sold on a one-for-one basis
with Series E Bonds, but now you can buy the com-
bination any time at your bank—and not just on a reg-
ular monthly plan as before.
The higher interest rate on Savings Bonds applies not
only to the new ones you buy, but to your older ones
too for their remaining period to maturity—generally
effective with the first full six-months interest period
beginning on or after June 1. (Outstanding Freedom
Shares are not affected).
Buy Bonds and new Freedom Shares—help yourself
even more as you're helping your country.
