Congressman Bob ‘Price of Pampa
has seen his proposal to boost FHA
farm real estate loan 'limits by 40
per cent become law. Price was
author of the initial legislation -
raising FHA farm ownership loan
limits from $60,000 to $100,000.
“Now young people trying to get
a start in farming, Vietnam veter-
ans and established farmers inter-
ested in expanding their operations,
will be able to look to FHA for in-
creased financial assistance. This
is of vital importance to agricul-
ture in the Texas Panhandle, the
State of Texas and other farming
areas of the country,” Price said.
Price stated that raising FHA
loan limits for farm land purchases
is an absolute necessity. “Infla-
tion is a cancer eating away at
the wealth of this nation; no per-
son or business is exempt from its
effects,” he said. "If farmers are
to be expected to continue to pro-
duce high quality foods and fibers
at a cost to the American consum-
er that is lower than any time in
our nation’s history, then farmers
will need access to expand its
sources of credit which they can
use to make farming operations as
efficient as possible,” he added.
The Texas lawmaker said he was
particularly proud of his proposal
because its enactment would not
cost the taxpayer more money.
Funds for the FHA home owner-
ship program are raised from pri-
vate investors through the sale of
FHA notes in the private money
market.
Members of the Women’s Society
of Christian Service of the United
Methodist Church of Groom will
participate this week in one of the
most important annual observances
of United Methodist women
throughout the United States.
The Call to Prayer and Self-
Denial focuses on prayer, a deep-
ened spiritual life, a guided mission
study, and a much needed self-
denial offering for special mission
work in the United States and
around the world. More than 1.5:
million women in 38,000 societies
and guilds in all 50 states will join
in the observance. ।
The Call, inspired by the needs
and the opportunities to be made;
possible by self-denial gifts, is
sponsored by tire Women’s Division
of the United Methodist Board of
Missions. The Women’s Division,
one of the four major units of thei
Board of Missions, is the national
body through which all local wom-
en’s societies and guilds function.
The Call to Prayer and Self-
Denial for women of the Groom!
Church will be celebrated at 10:30
a.m. January 11. The theme for
the 1971 Call of Prayer and Self-
Denial is “Yes, Lord? Yes, Lord'.”)

BALED CANE for sale out of my

Phone 248-5361 Groom.
A tomato greenhouse located on.
the west side of Claude was de-
stroyed by fire about 5:00 p.m.
Monday.
The greenhouse is owned and
operated by Clyde Cruse and son,
Bennie Cruse, former Groom resi-
dents. The building which was
constructed of wood and fiberglass,
burst into flames about 4:30 p.m.,
Monday, and darkened the sky
over Claude for about 15 minutes.
Three vehicles parked in the
greenhouse were also lost. A car
and pickup truck had been moved
inside to protect them from near
zero temperatures and a tractor
used in the operation were destroy-
ed. Although flames swept over
the structure within minutes, the
Cruse family complimented mem-
bers of the Claude Volunteer Fire
Department for saving an adjoin-
ing seedling greenhouse, a trailer
home, and the Bennie Cruse home.
The greenhouse, containing 16.800
square feet, was built in 1964.
Family members said a heat
lamp had been placed near a water
outlet in the building and said the
blaze could have started in that
area.
