Text of item: "My dear Mr. Kempner, Thank you so much for your fine letter. It brought back the fond memories of bygone years & my summer at Charlevoix with Mrs. Butzel, Sure, I remember [...] so well, the first meeting of the American Jewish Committee. My, what a list of splendid men constituted the Committee. I thought that [...] Leherman[?] was on the Committee, but evidently I am mistaken. I have had a fine life, much happiness * sorrow too. Mrs. Butzel passed away over three years ago after a lingering & painful sickness - hopeless from the start. I have a fine family. My son & namesake is engaged in teaching research at Union College, Schenectady. I have had a busy career, 261/2 years on the Bench, & four years at Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the position rotates. Since [...] 1, 1956, I have been counsel for my old law firm. I keep busy, [...] some of my youth - I am not too enthusiastic about the local branches of the American Jewish Committee. We have always had leaders to [...] to when trough arose. Brother Fred & I worked with Louis Marshall in agreeing on the Fred Apology. I hope that our faiths may meet in the new future. With kindest regards and best wishes, Your [...] Henry M. Butzel."
