MIy dear Dr. Carbad
of the Galveston Artillery Glub, but I would like to see any favor-
able response I make supported by some reasonable assurance from y,u
and other officers that the unfavorable financial condition of the
club will be cured. Obviously these deficits did not arise suddenly
except in the pool account which more or less recently shows a loss
as against several years previous operation. Then, too, have the
officers or Board of Directors done anything to stimulate attendance
and patronage at the club or control the higher expenses that vre:
vail especially in the kitchen and dining . room1
Among other things, it is hardly conducive to a, tendance
and patronage at the club, to enter there and find the steward
asleep in one of the chairs in either the bar or the receptio-n ruo
or to have those coming to patronize the dining room, especially
ladies, greeted by him in his shirt sleeves in each and every room
of the club. The schedule of prices in the dininL, room is not
high; the portions served patrons are not small.
I respectfully submit that a report on improvemnt of
pertinent features of the service and control of expense at the
club should be available concurrent tith any request for funds
from members,
