In the last few years, Charles Shaw, who resides in Dripping Springs, has
become one of the most admired and respected men in the field of Texas art and
illustration. Perhaps best known for his paintings at the San Jacinto monument, which
became an integral part of the multi-media show "Texas Forever! The Battle of San
Jacinto," Shaw has also authored one and illustrated numerous books on Texas history.
Acknowledgements
Charles Shaw's cover illustration, which shows Sheriff Light Townsend, and
two interior illustrations for The Conflict Between H. H. Moore and Sheriff Light
Townsend Ending With the Story of the Rock Which Triggered the Deaths of Four Men,
were made possible by the exceedingly generous donation of Wilbur H. Baber of
Hallettsville. Baber, who is one of the directors of the Raymond Dickson Foundation,
made the donation in memory of Alton C. Allen, his uncle and the foundation's first
director. Baber also provided the photograph of Sheriff Hamilton Dickson of Wharton
County, who was Raymond Dickson's father.
For their invaluable assistance on the Historical Atlas of Columbus, thanks are
due to Jim Rutta, Darrell Rau, and Jerome Dvorak.
Nancy Taylor is also to be thanked for noticing the visit of George Bush that was
the inspiration for Presidents Visit Colorado County.
