Hardy Memorial United
Methodist Church is con-
sidered one of the fastest
growing churches in
Texarkana. The pastor is
Rev. John E. Birkelbach.
The church was chosen
from its district to receive
the Copeland Award at the
annual Texas Conference
in Houston last week. A
church is selected from
each of the districts to
receive the award for
"leadership in winning
people to Christ, in in-
volving the newly won in
the life and work of the
church, in the care of those
already in their member-
ship and the deepening of
the commitment and ser-
vice of all within the body."
Rev. Birkelbach
graduated from Rusk High
School in 1958 and entered
. the United Methodist
ministry from First United
Methodist Church in Rusk
in 1958.
He has been the pastor of
the Texarkana church for
three years.

George Wynn of Rusk, was
graduated from Arlington
High School May 27.
He is a member of the
Bowie County Child
Welfare Board and is
president of the Awareness
of Crime in Texarkana

A hamburger cookout
honoring 30 Rusk High
School graduating seniors
was held recently at the
lake on the Allen Gilchrest
farm in the Ironton com-
munity near Jacksonville.
Honored with the party
were Nita Robinson, John
Mays, Frances Gentry,
Sonny Hassell, Dale Dover,
Joe D. Harris, Paul
Zabreski, Cheryl Mowrey,
Jeff McRae, Kelly Kelton
and Jennifer Townsend.
Also honored at the party

Wayne Deaton, Darryl
Sturrock, Gary Corley,
Katie William, Johnnie
Weaver, Scott McNair,.
Kevin Crawford and Jana
Ham.
Honored at the party also

and black silhouettes of the
boy and girl graduates
were displayed in several
places on the "little
house."
The words, "Welcome
Seniors", along with red
and black bows were hung
on the front of the "little
house."
Home movies of this
class, made when they were
in the eighth grade and on
through their high school
years, were shown by Mr.
and Mrs. Jamie Weaver
and thoroughly enjoyed by
the honorees.
Fishing was enjoyed by
those who wanted to fish
and ended with a big catch.

Amy Gale McMullen of
Tyler, formerly of Rusk,
won the Governor's
Physical Fitness award in
recognition of exceptional
achievement and physical
fitness proficiency.
Miss McMullen, who at-
tended Rusk Elementary
School and is the gran-
ddaughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Holmes of Rusk, had a
superior performance on
the Texas Physical Fitness
test given May 28 in Tyler.
The score for winning the
coveted award is 168. Miss
McMullen scored over all
the fourth and fifth graders
with a score of 200.
Amy is the daughter of
Gale and Veronica Mc-
Mullen and has a brother
and sister, both of whom
attend Gary Elementary
School in Tyler also.
Michael R. Morris
Morris was chosen to
Who's Who in Agricultural
Co-op and was selected as
the outstanding
agricultural cooperative
partime training student in
the area of agricultural
sales and services for the
Arlington chapter of the
Future Farmers of
America.
He also received the
Floriculture Award and
was captain of the AHS
varsity soccer team.
He will be attending
Abilene Christian Univer-
sity in Abilene this fall
majoring in agricultural
business.
Kinchen Makes Dean's List
Carl Kinchen of Rusk, a
student at Stephen F.
Austin State University in
Nacogdoches, was named
to the Dean's List in'both
the fall and spring
semesters.
Kinchen, the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Martin D. Kin-
chen of Rusk, was named
to the list for both semester
