Funeral services for
Cecil Wallace Pierce, 68, of
Slidell, La., formerly of
Jacksonville, were held
Monday, June 1, at 2 p.m.
in the Thompson Funeral
Home chapel in Jackson-
ville.
MM A-CAT-A-ME NEWS
I wish to thank everyone
for the flowers and well
wishes during my recent
stay in the hospital.
The Graduation was a
big success, we had 52
children graduated or
promoted. There were a
few children that were
unable to attend the
graduation. Parents of
these children, please
come by the MINI A-CAT-
A-ME and pick up the
child's diploma. These
children are Elayna
Wilcox, Leslie Parker,
Bronson Dear, Michelle
Mitchell and Valerie
Starkey.
The following children
have Progress Report Car-
ds that need to be picked
up: Ali Bagheri, William
Huber, Jennifer Tidrow,
Leslie Parker, Valerie
Starkey and Stacy Gozzola.
The MINI A-CAT-A-ME
Birthday Wish goes out to
the following children:
Stephanie Allen and Stacy
Wilburn, We also want to
wish Mrs. Janice Wilburn a
Happy Birthday.

Cemetery.
Mr. Pierce died Friday,
May 29, at 2:55 p.m. in a
Lake Charles, La., hospital
as the result of an auto-
truck accident.
He was born Sept. 10,
1912, in Jacksonville and
was a retired trucker for
the United Transport Co.
Survivors include his
wife, Mrs. Jerrie Pierce,
Slidell; one daughter, Mrs.
Frank (Sue) Oden,
Jacksonville; one son,
Jerry Don Pierce, Rusk;
two stepdaughters, Mrs.
Sue Talleu, Lexington,
Tenn., and Mrs. Renee
Crafton, Slidell; one step-
son, Gregg Crafton, New
Orleans, La.; one brother,
V.D. Pierce, Jacksonville;
and three grandchildren,
John Pierce, David Pierce
and Missi Pierce, all of
Rusk.
Marcia Martin
Funeral services for
Mrs. Marcia A. Martin, 56,
formerly of Rusk, were
held at 2 p.m. Thursday at
the Atoy Baptist Church
with the Rev. Hank Chan-
dler officiating.
Burial was in the Atoy
Cemetery under the direc-
tion of the Wallace-
Thompson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Martin died Wed-
nesday after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 8,
1925, in Rusk and had lived
in Kema since 1948. She
was a member of the Kema
Baptist Church.
Survivors include her
husband, Houston G. Mar-
tin of Kema; and her
mother, Gladys Goodson of
Rusk.
Pallbearers were Mark
Richards, Stuart
McAnally, Larry Cam-
pbell, Mike Smallwood,
Andy Smallwood and John
Paul Maness.
Mrs. Maggie
Wofford
Funeral services for
Mrs. Maggie Jane Wofford,
87, of Rusk, were held at 10
a.m. Wednesday in the
Wallace - Thompson
Funeral Home chapel with
the Rev. Charles Attebury
officiating.
Burial was in Atoy
Cemetery.
Mrs. Wofford died Mon-
day afternoon in a
Jacksonville hospital after
a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 8,
1893, in Madison County.
She was a lifelong resident
of Rusk and a member of
Mount Cove Missionary
Baptist Church of Atoy.
Survivors include three
sons, Raymond Wofford of
Dallas and Harold Wofford
and Troy Wofford, both of
Rusk; two daughters, Sybil
Morris of Cushing and
Murlene Slater of
Jacksonville; three
brothers, Fred Whittington
and Houston Whittington,
both of Dallas; and Bill
Jones of Shreveport; three
sisters, Lottie Clifton of
Rodessa, La., Lee Sowell of
Rusk and Estelle Lee of
Dallas; 21 grandchildren;
and several great-
grandchildren; and nieces
and nephews.
• Grandsons served as
pallbearers.

Approximately 100 per-
sons attended a reception
to honor the Atkinson
family Sunday afternoon.
Dr. George Atkinson,
pastor of the First United
Methodist Church in Rusk
for the past four years, was
officially announced as the
new pastor of a church in
Baytown at Conference last
week.
With his wife, Jan and
their two children, Geof-
frey and Jennifer, Dr.
Atkinson received the well
wishes of his own church
members as well as some
from other denominations
during the reception.
Planning for the function
was directed by Vivian
Heald and June Crysup,
representing the Pastor-
Parish Relations Commit-
tee. Members of the
congregation joined to pur-
chase a microwave oven
for the family as a parting
gift of love and ap-
preciation.
Johnnie McKay, chair-
man of the host committee,
and his wife Marie, greeted
guests with the Atkinson
family.
Joe Rozelle presented a
certificate of appreciation
to Dr.Atkinson on behalf of
Dr. Robert Glen, Rusk
State Hospital superinten-
dent and Mrs. Marge
Dibert, chairman of the
Volunteer Services Coun-
cil. He shared the work of
VSC during his service to
the Rusk church and was a
ch, iced cake squares,
salted nuts and mints were
served. Ernest and Kathy
Singleton catered the party
which featured numerous
arrangements of fresh
flowers.
