Texas has thirteen holidays, and
today, Friday, May 30, is one of
them, being Decoration Day, with
no business carried on at the banks
and no delivery of mail by rural
carriers. Two of the thirteen holi-
days are purely Texas brand—Tex-
as Independence, March 2 and San
Jacinto, April 21. All the states get
in on observance the 4th of July,
on which day it usually rains, and
is about the time watermelons are
hitting their stride.
