Keeping household accounts
during 1930 has shown us where
our short-qomings are, and has
been the means of directing our
plans for 1931 more economically,
was a portion of a very impres-
sive report given by Mrs. R. Ellis
of Wills Point, Route 4, to a
group of club women at Canton
Monday, January 5.
"After taking into consideration
the cost of living, expenses of
farming and the amount of money
tied up in land, we are thorough-
ly convinced that account-keep-
ing is the only safeguard against
. heavy losses,” she said.
"In consulting our books, we
found we had a shortage of $400
for the year’s work. This was not
necessarily due to bad manage-
ment, neither was the price of
cotton altogether the cause, but a
correlation of four projects: In-
sufficient feed planted and inade-
quate pasture for milk cows were
the two heavy losing items; these
together with the high cost of
feeds and fertilizer. With other
expenses incurred during the
year, we lost out for our labor.
"To begin over and to do our
best in over-coming the discrepan-
cies of the past program, we are
going to plant permanent pas-
tures, hatch our chickens late and
feed them on farm grown feed,
also plant a year-round garden
which we believe will relieve the
present situation.
Mrs. Ellis concluded by saying
"We will also keep accounts from
here on out."
however whether she meant to
insinuate that our class was good
as a “hole" or as a whole. We’ll
take it as the latter and be opti-
mistic!
In our English work,’ we have
just finished making a booklet to
illustrate Seveison’s “Travels With
a Donkey." It was not so easy,
but we enjoyed it just the same.
Our history class has adopted a
new method of class work. A
president is elected who takes
charge of the class for two days,
then another is elected. We have
a great time learning how to
teach.
It looks as though "Bunt" keeps
late hours, as he was tardy four
days last week. He started the
new year off wrong. Naughty
