George Kennedy was elected
county Democratic chairman in
Saturday’s election by a large ma-
jority. Mr. Kennedy was serving
as temporary chairman.
Mrs. Lilly Sides Burns, one of
Van Zandt County’s most popular
teachers, a native of Tundra and
Van Zandt County and at present
teaching in Myrtle Springs pre-
sented a very valuable book of her
own compiling to the Van Zandt
county library complimentary and
for the use of teachers.
Mrs. Burns has taught many
years in the county and has ren-
dered inspiring intellectual stimul-
us to the schools. She received
her degree in the class of 1940
from E. T. S. T. C., Commerce.
My father, O. J. Beckworth, my
twin sister, Linnie, and I wish to
thank all the citizens of Van
Zandt County for the great con-
fidence you reposed in me July
27.
In this important and crucial
period of our nation’s history I
shall earnestly endeavor to do my

Judge of Van Zandt Oounty for a
third term by a majority of some
601 votes over three opponents in
Saturday’s primary which is in-
deed an enviable record for any
man and in view of the fact that
merce. There will be special an-
nouncements regarding the district
livestock show to be held in Ter-
rell cn Sept. 16-21. The district is
composed of Van Zandt, Kaufman
and Rockwall Counties.
The local fire department is
making every effort to bring you
better programs for the regular
weekly entertainments on Friday
night and feel that it will be a

Word was received by relatives
here of the death of Fate Brasher
of New Mexico, who was killed
there in an automobile accident
Monday night.
The details of the accident were
not reported. His brother, Henry
Brasher of the Jackson communi-
ty and a brother of New London
left Tuesday to attend the funeral.
The Brasher family is well
known in the county.
