Jesus Christ, into our hearts we can
let our lights shine at all times and
not be pumpkin heads.
Refreshments of orange and black
cupcakes and witches brew were
served from a table decorated with
a black table cloth and a witch fly-
ing over.
The Sunbeams then went to the
home of Mrs. L. R. Whitton and pre-
sented her with a box of fruit which
they had each brought: They sang
“I’ll Be A Sunbeam,’’ and recited
Matthew 5:16 for Mrs. Whitton.
Those attending were Mrs. Shinn,
Mrs. Edward Looney, Mrs. Ray Hen-
drix, Toni and Gene Crawford, Carol

Outdoor Living
Studied By 4-H’ers
Van Zandt County 4-H’ers who are
members of the 4-H TV Action Club
have been studying “Emergency liv-
ing Outdoors” and in the process
took a field trip into the woods via
television to try out their survival
kits.
During their eighth meeting in the
4-H Action Club series, currently
appearing over television station
KLTV, the Van Zandt County 4-H’ers
learned how to make a survival kit
and prepare various kinds of SOS
signals.
TV Action Club Advisor Dick Ar-
nold showed the 4-H members how
to treat snakebite and ways to pre-
vent insect bites. Marvin Henry and

Select Greens
By Their Color
As seasons change from summer
to winter, most of us lose our con-
venient local supply of tender greens
—those menu items that add flavor,
texture and color to our meals and
zip to our health.
Our bodies needgreens in the win-
ter, too. So, produce dealers bring
them to us from warm-weather
areas, principally South Texas, Ari-
zona, California and Florida. These
areas now supply most of the greens
we find in local markets, report
fruit and vegetable market news of-
fices of the consumer and market-
ing service.
Collards, turnip and mustard
greens and green onions are on the
market now. Cabbage and head let-
tuce are the most hardy of all our
greens, and consequently are gener-
ally available at most markets, all
year.
The U. S. Department of Agricul-
ture suggests that you consider “col-
or” when selecting greens. As a
rule, dark-green leaves are rich in
vitamins A and C. Kale, spinach,
turnip greens, and broccoli leaves
have much more vitamin A value
than head lettuce or cabbage.
Turnip greens, kale and collards
are among the excellent sources of
riboflavin. Dark green, leafy vege-
tables also are notable sources of
iron and calcium. And, did you (
know that the outer leaves of cab-
bage have more calcium than the 4
inner leaves?
Greens, as a whole, are an impor-
tant food group. Even though their
nutrient content is low, they hone
our health to keen edge.

Sunbeams Enjoy
Halloween Party
Wednesday evening, October 25,
19 Sunbeams met at the home of their
leader, Mrs. Kennith Shinn, for a
Halloween party.
As each Sunbeam arrived they had
to pass through the haunted house be-
fore entering the main room which
was decorated with orange lights and
lighted pumpkins. The Sunbeams
judged each others costumes and
picked Lisa Sides as winner, who
wore a Bugs Bunny costume. Toni
Crawford won a jar of candy com by
guessing the closest number of
pieces in the jar.
Theme of the party was “Don’t
