Twenty one years after the
city of Canton was laid out,
First Baptist Church in Canton
was organized. One hundred
years have passed since the
church began to function as an
organized body. In celebration
of the centennial year, the
church is having a month of
special activities during Sep-
tember. This issue of the Canton
Herald carries news stones
which reveal, among other
things, the history of the
church, and advertising in
support of an issue large enough
to carry the history and other
church-related stories and
pictures The generous business
and professional men and
women of Canton have made
this issue possible by their
advertising. This September 2
issue is, in a sense, a historical
document. Extra copies have
been printed for those who
might desire to send them to
relatives who do not subscribe
to the Herald and may be
purchased at the Canton Herald
office.
The Herald staff is grateful to
a number of people who helped
gather information, secure
pictures and gave assistance in
various ways.
