countywide Spelling Bee held
Wednesday, March 6, at 2 p.
m., in the courtroom of the
county courthouse was
seventh grade student, Jo
Haptonstall, 12-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Wesley K. Haptonstall of
Fruitvale. Mrs. Anneta
Koonce was her sponsor.
Sharon Jenkins, 13-year-old
seventh grader from Wills
Point, was first runner-up.
She is the daughter of Mrs.
Mary Ellen Jenkins, of Wills
Point. Her sponsors were
Mrs. Ronnie Chitty and Mrs.
Roy Rogers.
Second runner-up was
Debbie Dillard, seventh grade
14-year-old, from Grand
Saline. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Reid. Her
sponsor was Mrs. Tommie
Matthews.

CREATIVE CORNER
In last week’s Creative
Corner, Mrs. Verdell
January’s recipe for hot rolls
was incomplete. It should
have read as follows:
Hot Rolls
3 cup sugar
1 cup All Bran cereal
1 cup shortening
1% teaspoon salt
Dissolve in 2 cups boiling
water and when cool add 1
cake yeast, which has been
dissolved in 1 cup water.
Add 2 eggs, well beaten. To
this, add 4 cups flour; beat
well. Add 3 more cups flour.
Cover and refrigerate
overnight. Pinch off pieces
and roll in butter and place in
muffin cups.
Bake at 375° for 12-15
minutes. The rolls will keep in
the refrigerator for two weeks
before cooking. Makes 32
