interests, needs and family

sets his learning goals by
identifying what he wants to
do and how he wants to do it.
As learning takes place, 4-H
members acquire important
skills and information. In
addition to learning how to
sew’ a dress, plan a nutritious
meal or survey local job
opportunities, 4-H members
also learn how to make
decisions, cope with minor
crisis, participate in a group,
share leadership roles and
evaluate their accomplish-
ments.
There is no better way to
prepare young people for the
future than to equip them with
some of these basic life skills.
As a teaching tool, the 4-H
project can be the core of the
4-H member’s experience.
But it can also help young
people to- develop a better
understanding of themselves
and their role in society.
Youth between the ages of
nine and 19 are encouraged to
call or visit their local county
extension agents and ask
about the variety of 4-H
projects available.

of the Texas Agricultural
Extension Service is aimed at
helping young people develop
their capabilities to the
fullest. One important phase
of the 4-H member’s
development involves
choosing, planning and
evaluating projects.
4-H members have more
than 40 project areas
available to them, including
wildlife, farm and ranch
ma nagement , vegetable
gardening, photography,
clothing, horse and pony,
safety and beef cattle.
Projects can also include
activities relating to current
social issues—conversation,
ecology, health, career
opportunities and inter-
personal communications.
Before choosing a project, a
member is encouraged to
consult with his parents and
4-H leader to decide which
project can best meet his

Plan A Is To
Educate Child
“The Texas Education
Agency is committed to the
principle of education for all
children, regardless of
variance in abilities.”
Educators are committed to
the principle that every child
is entitled to full recognition
of his right to educational
opportunity consistent with
ability to learn. The purpose
of Plan A is to fulfill this
committment.
Plan A will provide services
additional to, supplementary
with, or different from those
provided in the regular school
program. Instructional
techniques, materials, and
equipment will be designed to
meet the needs of the
exceptional children.
“Exceptional children are
children between the ages of
three and 21, inclusive, with
educational handicaps
(physical, mental, emotional,
and/or children with language
and/or learning disabilities)
as specifically defined.... ”
Plan A will provide testing,
screening, and counseling, for
the family. It is the desire of
the coop staff to meet with
parents, children, church
groups, social groups, lodges,
clubs, school groups, etc., to
provide information
concerning this program and
how it may best serve Van
Zandt County.
