Ben Wheeler will hold a hot
dog supper at the Ben
Wheeler Skating Rink from
veterans’ exemptions or the
agricultural use exemptions
must apply before April 30.
Those who wish to claim
any of the exemptions are
urged to apply as soon as
possible in the Canton School
Tax Office located in the Old
Post Office building.
Citizens of the Canton

money for the Van Zandt County Children's Shelter by means of a Rock-A-Thon Saturday.
Mrs Helen Bellew and Mrs. Letha Youngblood, residents of the home, presented the check to
Miss Minshew Tuesday.

dogs 456; corny dogs 40c;

he has done to upgrade and
help m intain the airport site

to request the city to annex
the school property on
Highway 243 and amend the
final school calendar. The
meeting was held Tuesday
night in the superintendent’s
coference room.

On Water Emergency
Canton Post
Office Has New
Window Hours
The Canton Post Office will
have new hours beginning
Monday, April 17. The window
service will open at 8:00 a.m.
and close at 4:30 p.m.
All mail and pickup
delivery will remain the
same.
The post office will still
receive mail at the side door
from businesses until 5:00
p.m.
Sloan, Bruce Wilemon, E. E.
Wycough and J. R. Grace and
County Judge Richard Ray all
voiced approval, with the
stipulation that they first take
a look at the re-evaluation of
county property that is
currently being done.
Judge Ray said he didn’t
know what impact the
exemption would have on
county finances but he felt
that it would be minimal.

is being discussed by
members of Van Zandt
County Commissioner’s Court
as a result of a request made
FFA Project
Show Is Set
For Friday
The annual FFA Project
Show of the Canton Chapter is
set for Friday, April 14. Each
boy in the FFA has a money
making project on which they
keep a record book which
shows everything bought for
the animal or crop. In the
project show every student
has the opportunity to show
hr project and be judged by
Extension Agent Todd Berry.
Mr. Berry will begin judging
at 1 p.m. at the fair grounds.
Visitors are invited to attend.

well’s being repaired.
Gerald Turner, city
secretary, said that the well
was caving in at the bottom,
and that the shaft had twisted
and broken. Even if the well
could be repaired, at the
present time it will not
produce enough water.
J. C. Davis of Frankston,
well driller, advised the city
that he would not suggest
going back into the well at all
in its present condition, Mr.
Turner stated.

Floyce Booker believes that
since Commissioner J. R.
Grace built a driveway for the
Bookers’ neighbor and since it
is apparently the custom in
the county to do such work
that the Precinct 4
commissioner should build a
driveway for him. Mr. Grace,
at Commissioners Court
meeting on Monday declined
to give Mr. Booker an answer,
except to say that he may or
may not build the driveway.

commissioners that he and
Mr. Grace have been

Canton Cancer
Crusade To
Kickoff Saturday
The Canton Cancer Crusade
will officially kickoff
Saturday, April 15, according
to Glen Wallace, Canton
Crusade Chairman.
Mr. Wallace will treat the 33
volunteer workers to a
luncheon at the Van Zandt
Country Club Thursday, April
13, at 12:00 noon. At that time,
the workers will receive
packets of material.
Mr. Wallace also stated that
he is hoping collections will be
good this year. Last year the
Van Zandt County
Commissioners voted Monday
to donate $5,500 to the Van
Zandt County Children’s
Welfare Emergency Shelter,
their second contribution of
that amount within the
space of several months.
Heritage Manor Nursing
Home also collected a $260
donation in a unique manner
to add to the fund’s total,
which had reached $36,995.40
(not counting the county’s
$5,500) by Monday of this
week.
Other benefits are planned
for the home, the most
elaborate of which will be the
comedy athletic event to
County Judge Richard Ray
told commissioners Monday
at the session of
commissioners court in
Canton that he wants to find
out what the people of the
county think about landfills
for the rural residents as well
as for those in town. He said
that he will shortly be mailing
out questionnaires to county
residents to get their ideas on
the subject.
The judge and the
commissioners noted that
