Minibus Serves Elderly
The gray minibus seen around
town is the only transportation
some of the older citizens have. It is
for the benefit of senior citizens,
those who are 60 years of age and
older, and is an important program.
The service is provided through a
joint effort of the City of Rusk and
federal funds. The City is dedicated
to continuation of this vital
program in spite of cuts in federal
funds, according to city spokesmen.
It has not been a practice of the
City in the past to solicit con-
tributions from the community to
help in funding this service. Now,
due to recent cuts in federal funds,
it has become necessary that we
appeal to the citizens of Rusk for
their help. Participants in the
program contribute to the program,
but they are not able to take up the
slack.
