A laugh a minute, that’s what you can expect when
there are teen-agers shuffling around your house. It
may be hysterical laughter, but fun.
Know what the latest dance craze is? At least, it was
the latest as of a couple days ago. It’s the “wobble.”
Don’t ask what the steps are. there aren't any. Like
the “fish,” the “monkey” and “mashed potato,” you just
sort of—move.
' Partners take square dance positions, then burst into movement.
They balance on one leg, and then on the other; dangling any
available foot in mid-air. Everything's accomplished by hand and
rear motions.
• " ... ■ 0.2 ". .. . ’ ' ′ f." ••
But they stilllike the twist What happened to the "hully gully"
Strictly passe Still current is the “fish." which is sort of lethargic.
Its primary characteristic is a lazy shuffle, while the hands are used
in propeller motions like fins.
And how about the “fly?" It has the basic rear movement*, but
the rest of the body and the head are thrown back. The arms ex-
tend and sort of flutter like wings. This is one of the no-touch dance*
—one that seems to work best without partners. Oh well, at least it
takes care of the wallflowers.
There s also he "limbo rock,” a jazzed-up teen-age version of the
Latin dance. The body is bent back as far as possible with nothing
but the feet touching ground.
Or how would you like to do the "mashed potato?" Its supposed
to parallel with mashing real potatoes, but you'd never know it. ,
The ' watusi" is a series of stalking strides, some undefined hand
movements, and many war-like shakings of the head. The "slop” is a
fun thing
it's a subdued twist that partners do back to back, but there are
also some intricate hand and step varieties beyond the comprehen-
sion of a mere adult. ,
On the dance floor anything goes You can wiggle, you can wad- J
die. you can swing, scratch or side You can also get a dandy charley 4
