Gammon Picked For All-Star
Cage Game To Replace Matson
Denton’s Mike Gammon, overlooked earlier when the all-star
basketball squads were announced, will be playing in the annual
North-South game after all.
Gammon, who was second only to Thomas Jefferson's Bob Glo-
ver in the All-State balloting, has been picked to replace Pampa's
Randy Matson, who is on the U S. track team now competing
against the Russians in Moscow.
The All-Star game will be held Thursday, Aug. 8, at Houston
during the 31st annual Texas Coaches School.

Who says baseball is dying?
An estimated 8,000 persons attended four games here Thurs-
day and Friday.
Denton's and Arlington Heights’ bi-district playoff at Bronco
Field drew around 5,000 with fans spread out down both foul
lines and some on around behind the outfield fences.
The Area 4 Little League payoff picked up another 3,000 at
City Park.
Attendance at both playoffs might have been more if the two
could have been arranged where they wouldn't conflict.

Did anyone else notice the absence of the usual rhubarbs which
in the past have accompanied games between Denton and Fort
Worth American Legion teams?
It was a wise decision when it was decided to use three Dallas
officials for the series instead of the usual way of letting the
home team furnish the umpires.
D. L. Ferrell, Joe Murphy and Jim Murphy may have missed
some calls but neither side could say they were showing any
partiality.
