PUBLICITY FOR "MAME" haa
keen the task of Doris Cook, pic-
tared above. As a member of the
Cherokee Civic Theatre, she has
volunteered countless hours in sup-
port of the Fall '87 production which
continues Thursday. The showings
are directed by Moat Hassell Oct. 1-
2-3-4. staff photo
Community theater at its best
awaits those that attend this
weekend's showing of the Cherokee
Civic Theatre production of
"Mame."
The memory of Zula Pearson still
lives on in the lives of those she
touched. You see it every year as the
curtain rises for a production
presented by the community
theater she birthed and loved so
much. Moss Hassell, in the role of
director, produced something that
could have even made Zula proud.
Every ounce of talent was pulled by
his direction from his troupe.
Where to begin seems to be an im-
possible dream! Who was the most
outstanding? That is an unan-
swerable question! They were all
great! The acting was professional
and the music was simply beautiful.
Gloria Dotson works long and hard
in making sure that all music is per-
fect.
Jill Swink is someone to be com-
mended She not only was
choreographer, but played the part
of Mame in Act I. Marcelette
Broussard played the lead part in
Act II. The two blended together in
such a way that you forgot that they
weren't really the same person at
two different times in her life.
The part of Vera Charles was very
ably played by Mary Marcinek and
Jean Barlow. Young Danny Dan-
tin and the Rev. Richard Gilmer
were very good in their portrayal of
Patrick Dennis. The casting for the
double roles was great. You blinked
your eyes and 10-year-old Danny
became grownup Patrick, pla> < <•) by
the Rev. Gilmer.
If you could say anyone stn' he
show, probably that honor would j',o
to Kathy Kotheirner as Agnes
Gooch Her performance is worthy
of the price of the ticket. To 11 "al
her performance would take the ef
feet of the performance away from
audiences of this weekend
Fact is if you said too much ir his
week's publication, it could ruin the
show for those that see it, < I think''
Otherwise, it might not Many a lit
tie boy will do everything he can to
find someone to go with him.
I invite each and every one of you
who did not take advantage of the
early showing last weekend to at-
tend Thursday, Friday, Saturday
or Sunday. You will be so glad you
did!
As you leave you will leave with a
chuckle in your voice and a song in
your heart. You will find yourself
humming the beautiful tunes and
laughing over the comedy for
several days.
