noon Rusk Rotary Club luncheon
meeting Larry Sinclar was
program chairman and introduced
the speaker
I grew up in Tyler and played
football and basketball in high
school, Tyler Junior College and at
Stephen F Austin After college, I
signed up to play professional foot-
ball with the Pittsburg Steelers My
pro career was terminated by injury
so I decided to go into coaching and
was on the staff at Jacksonville and
Fairfield before coming to Rusk We
have a good coaching staff here, and
1 enjoy working with them and the
players as well as all other students
in our school I tell the players that
sports are important but it is far
more important for them to get their
education.' stated the speaker

Groesbeck Thursday

The Rusk High School Freshman
football team will host Groesbeck at
S 30 p m today (Thursday) at Eagle
Stadium The team is 2-1 on the
season, losing last week to Mexia

The Eagles scored their only
touchdown of the game on a long run
by Jerry Don Hart.
Registration for the Adult
Education program will beheld 6:30
to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday,
Oct. 6 and 8 in Room 7, Rusk High
School.
All books and instructional
materials will be furnished free and
no tuition or fee is charged for in-
struction.
The program is sponsored by
federal and state grants to assist
adults in the completion of an eighth
grade or high school equivalency
education. Any person who is at
least 16 years of age and who did not
attend public school during the past
school year may attend. Those who
have completed high school or
college are not eligible.
Classes will meet twice a week on

Groesbeck

The Rusk High School Junior Var-
sity football team will play at 7 p.m.
Thursday at Eagle Stadium. The JV
will be hosting Groesbeck in a
district game The team lost their
district opener 34-14 last Thursday
in Mexia
The JV Eagles rallied in the third
period and scored twice. John Staf-
ford scored on a six yard run and a
pass from David Wills to David
White was good for the two point
conversion Wills scored later on a
six yard run and the conversion at-
tempt failed
David White played well for the
Eagles on both offense and defense
He had a couple of good pass recep-
tions and recovered a Mexia fumble.
Chad Joyner and Nate Session both
had a fumble recovery. Trey
t Bowling did a good job receiving the
football and Clint Emerson was
cited for good defensive play
"We were unable to establish a
consistency in the game," says
Coach Don Blalock. "We will work
hard this week in anticipation of our
game with Groesbeck ''
FFA Report

The Rusk FFA will have a busy
week of Oct 5 The dairy judging
teams will travel to Waco Oct. 5 for a
4 p.m. judging contest Oct. 7, the
hay judging teams travel to
Jacksonville for a 6p m contest and
also on the 8th the hay hauling teams
will compete at Jacksonville
Oct 13 at 7 p.m in the Junior High
School cafeteria. Dr Dickson,
wildlife scientist from SFA, will
present a workshop on turkey
management and hunting. The
public is invited
The livestock judging team will be
traveling to Waco Oct. 10 They will
judge cattle, hogs and sheep on car-
cass cutability as well as grading
each class
Tuesdays and Thursdays for ap-
proximately 25 weeks. Dianne
Barlow is the designated teacher for
the Rusk class.
Objectives of the program are to
teach adults to read, write, speak
the English language and to acquire
arithmetic skills; to assist adults
who wish to acquire a GED Cer-
tificate, the equivalent of a high
school diploma; and to assist adults
to better meet their adult respon-
sibilities

City of Rusk must impose
tax on garbage collection
The City of Rusk will be required
by state law to impose a sales tax on
solid waste collection services effec-
tive Oct. 1. The new tax will be in-
cluded on the bill customers receive
at the end of October
The state is requiring cities to ap-
ply a sales tax to all sanitation ser-
vices effective Oct. 1. This is not
something the city has a choice
about.
The tax rate for October through
December 1987 will be 7 percent In
January, the county's additional lv
cent sales tax will go into effect, in-
creasing the customer's rate
Schools and churches will be
exempt Certificates for exemption
must be claimed by completing a
form, to be returned to the city by
Oct. 25.
