The tournament includes two rounds:
an initial preliminary round, and a final
round for the squads that advance past the
preliminaries.
"We have a lot of dedicated girls,"sen-
ior Andrea Gessel said. "There's just a lot
of talent that should hopefully help us
make the finals."
Advancing to the tournament wasn't
an easy process, nor was it a cheap one.

had to find creative ways to raise money.
They'll be ushering' at Spurs and
Stampede games at the SBC Center and
will also fundraiser at Taco Cabana.
"The SBC Center hires individuals and
groups and they help with groups for
fundraisers," O'Connor said. "The money
earned goes directly to the group."
Looking to improve upon their disap-
pointing finish in the 2001 tournament, the
team is much more prepared this time
around according to Gessel.

inary round and the finals will be held in

Erin Griffin and Liz Beyer
were named Heartland
Conference Players Of The
Week for Feb. 3-9.
Griffin, a senior post from
San Antonio Clark High
School, led the Lady Rattler
basketball team to a 2-0 record
for the week.
Beyer, a junior from San
Antonio MacArthur High
School, hit .786 on the week
with three home runs and 14
RBIs as the Rattler softball
team went 4-1 in the Las Vegas
Classic Tournament. She also
averaged one RBI for each of
her at bats.

The Rattler cheerleaders are heading to
the National Cheerleader Association
Chair and Dance Collegiate
Championship in Daytona, Fla. after
receiving a bid from the NCA.
The event is held from March 31 to
April 4 but the total number of teams com-
peting has yet to be determined.
Directed by Coach Bridget O'Connor, it
will be the squad's first trip to the nation-
al tournament since the spring of 2001.

Government Association,
along with several student
organizations, will host a pep
rally, in order to celebrate the
spring sports at St. Mary's
University. The event will take
place outside V.J. Keefe and
will begin at 5 p.m with food,
beverages, live music, and
games. Everyone is invited to
attend and stay for the baseball
game, as the Rattlers take on
Mankato State under the stadi-
um lights, at 7 p.m. There will
also be games and prizes given
away to fans during the game.
Come out and support all the
athletes, trainers, and coaches
that work hard during the
spring season.
Water baseball
back by popu-
lar demand
Due to the popularity of the
water baseball game that took
place last month, the aquatic
department is hosting another
game. This event will take
place on Wed. March 24, at
6pm at the AACC indoor pool. .
Everyone is invited to
attend and cheer on the play-
ers. There is no admission
charge. Also, if you would like
to participate in the game you
can register and pick up the
rules at the Aquatics office,
downstairs of the AACC.
