Mr. Phil White
Mr. Charles Borchers moved
into the counselor’s spot on the
second floor of Doyle hall this
year. A resident of Laredo and
graduate of SEU, he replaces Dan
Rosprim. He is now a law stu-
dent at the University of Texas.
A-
Gregory Peck, Kirk Douglas,
Marlon Brando, Suzanne Plesh-
ette and Shirley Jones are just a
few of the stars who will be head-
ing the casts in this year’s Hilltop
film festival. Again this year
the University will offer to the
students a series of top rate first
run movies at discount prices.
Season tickets at three dollars
per ticket will save students $1.55.
The tickets also entitle the holder
to free admission to the “bonus”
movies which will be offered from
time to time. Tickets may be pur-
chased from either Bernie Yun
or Paul McDermott.
Scheduled for the Hilltop film
festival this season are:
Another former member of the
Rancho San Antonio staff is Bro-
ther Thomas Bronchetti, CSC,
third floor counselor at Doyle
hall, where he replaces Brother
Peter Vukmanic, CSC. Brother
Thomas was a counselor for four
years at the ranch and served as
athletic director for a time. He is
taking classes in teacher training
at SEU. He hails from Burbank,
California.

take in the Dominican Republic.
In rural .community development
work, the volunteers help villag-
ers to define their own problems
and work together toward a solu-
tion. The volunteers also received
basic instruction in the Spanish
language, area studies and Ameri-
can history and institutions.
There are presently 148 volun-
teers at work in the Dominican
Republic in education, health,
agricultural extension and com-
munity development.
Nearly 6,500 Peace Corps volun-
teers are now at work in 46 coun-
tries of Africa, Asia and Latin
America. Requests for additional
volunteers are received daily.
Peace Corps officials report that
plans are being made to train up
to 5,000 more volunteers this sum-
mer and 1,200 this fall. Interested
applicants are urged to submit
their questionnaires now and take
the next nationwide placement
test on June 13.
Phil White, Andre hall’s new
third floor counselor, is at pres-
ent doing graduate work at the
University of Texas. Phil, a gradu-
ate of St. Edward’s last year, is
from Santa Clara, California.
During Phil's .undergraduate work
at SEU he was captain of the
basketball team and an all-con-
ference selection.
There have been several
changes in the “counselorships” of
SEU residences halls. Seven new
people have taken up positions in
the various dorms.
Brother Walter Griffin, CSC,
came to Premont hall from
Rancho San Antonio, Chatsworth,
California. Brother Walter, third
floor counselor for the new dorm,
has had several years’ experience
in counseling at the ranch for
delinquent boys in California.
Brother Walter is a history major,
hailing from Sherman Oaks,
California, where he graduated
from Notre Dame high school.

Moving from the second floor
of Holy Cross to the first floor
to take over as rector is Brother
Louis Messina, CSC. Brother
Louis was born in Boston, Massa-
chusetts. After spending five
years in the Coast Guard, he join-
ed the Holy Cross order. Brother
Louis is an English major.
Leo B. Bourgeois, St. Edward’s
’64, is one of 36 Peace Corps volun-
teers now on home leave prior to
leaving for the Dominican Re-
public. They will participate in an
agriculture and rural community
development project.
This is the first Peace Corps
project to be totally trained (15
weeks) at one of the Peace Corps’
field training camps in Puerto
Rico. (Previous trainees have
usually spent three or four weeks
there, with the remainder of their
training conducted at an Ameri-
can university.) Since life in
Puerto Rico resembles that in the
Dominican Republic, the training
gave the volunteers practical ex-
perience.
For the field work, they went
singly and in groups to work in
rural areas throughout Puerto
Rico, in rural community develop-
ment, agricultural extension and
home economics programs . . .

from Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Scullin
is a history major here at St.
Edward’s. After graduating in
