With the decrease in financial
aid, St. Edward’s has obtained an
altervative source of aid for
students.
St. Edward’s has received a grant
for $47,562 from Target stores to
provide students with extra income
for tuition.
Target stores has established a
student work program (T-SWEP)
which will place 250 students from
colleges in Austin, Dallas, Ft.
Worth, Houston and San Antonio
in part-time jobs.
T-SWEP, which is funded for
one year, will provide about $1
million in income for students to
cover the cost of college.
There are 30 Target stores in the
five cities who hire a high number
of part-time help, and this program

The St. Edward’s Student
Scholarship Board (SSB) is a pro-
gram based on the 13-year old pro-
gram at Baylor University in Waco.
This is the second year for the
SSB at St. Ed’s, and although grow-
ing pains are being experienced, the
program continues to serve a spec-
ific purpose.
The main reason behind the SSB
is to award active students with
scholarships of up to $1,000. These
scholarships are solicited from area
merchants by students, with coor-
dinating efforts coming from the
University Relations Office.
The theory behind the scholar-
ships is to thank and encourage
those students who are active in
campus life.
In order for a student to be
awarded a scholarship, her/his
