The caravan rode approximately
twenty miles to the location of Lost
Mine Trail. About six miles were
hiked that day.
Friday’s hike was along the Blue
Creek Trail, about ten miles long
through a desertous terrain. The
cool air kept the extremely sunny
day weather very comfortable.
On Saturday, S.E.U. hikers en-
joyed lunch shortly after noon on
top of one of the Chisos Mountains
(elevation: 7,800 ft.). This day’s hike
was on the South Rim Trail. The
walk up and down the mountain
covered approximately fourteen
miles. Magnificent views of sur-
rounding valleys and alps were

Although fear of whether one can
make it in the job world or not
sounds like a singular apprehension,
I think most of us can relate to, and
have in one way or another, been
faced with this same fear. This is a
basic fear of the future.
I remember, as does everyone,
that fear of college. I was afraid that
it might be too hard or I wouldn’t be
able to handle it somehow. I think
we’ve all felt that way at one time or
another. Or there is always that fear
of the first date and whether or not it
will go alright or will your car’s four
tires go flat as you round a corner
(which actually happened to me once).
And, of course there are many, many
more examples.
So how does one go about coping
with these sorts of insecurities? Well,
there are no set steps or guidelines to
solving our fears for future outcomes.
However, there is one important
factor that is very important to remem-

ber and that is that we are not the
only ones with fears of what can
happen. We, as individual people,
cannot become so independent that
we don’t recognize other people with
the same problem. Realizing that
you’re not alone in your fears helps
as much as anything. So lean on a
friend, you might find that he or she
needs you to hold them up too.
Again, I hope the holidays were

The Thanksgiving trip to Big Bend
National Park sponsored by the Out-
door Recreation Club was an absolute
success. The band of twenty-one
S.E.U. students, faculty, staff, and
friends visited this mountainous, des-
ertous West Texas region along the
Rio Grande River.
The group departed from St.
Edward’s University at about 1:00
p.m. on Wednesday, November 27.
After a nine-hour drive, the caravan
arrived at the Rio Grande Camp-
ground (located at a Southeast section
of the park). The S.E.U. adventurers
