drowned early Tueoday morning in
the Colorado river while bathing.

this offence in the city court, but
many more are not detected by
our traffic policemen and there-
by escape punishment
Can at Terrific Speed.
While riding on West Sixth street
Thursday night two heavy racing
cars, each driven by a man in uni-
form. passed me at a terrific rati
of speed.
The conduct of these reckless
drivers endangered every traveler
in that vicinity and made pos-
sible at each street intersection ’
a •serious collision.
The authorities of the various mili-
tary establishments here should re-
quire a strict observance of our traf-
fic laws by their men, and I am
sure that if such practices are
called to their attention they will I
gladly co-operate with the city au-
thorities to this end.
Truck Wrecked Young Woman's
Car.
Last Wednesday afternoon an au-
tomobile driven by a young woman
wae wrecked at the corner of Sixth
and Colorado streets on account of
the driver of a heavy truck not
observing the regulations as to turn-
ing at corners.

| He protested to the board, but his
i protest was not eranted.

Then he appealed from the board

5 to the council that his complaint
) was not because of the $40 in-
8 olve, but because of the unfair-
ness where fairness and equability
should prevail.
g By acceptance of his view of the
| matter end by Its act in overruling
the board's action in the Shipe case,
the council recognised the need of
a new system of tax assessment and
nqualization.
Shipe Proved Case.
Commenting on the matter after
it was disposed of by the council
Mayor Wooldridge said:
e "Council gets a few cAses like
those of Mr. Shipe.

tern creates like conditions in many
