Soccer returns

Last Sunday marked the beginning of soccer season for the
Colony. After the dedication of the soccer field, several teams
played scrimmage games.
The Redneck Mothers played against their husbands in an
exhibition game. The ladies did their best, but lost 1-0. There
was one casualty during the game. Micki Patrick received an
injury to her leg.
The Cardinals (girls under 10) played the Cougars (girls under
12). The score in that game was 9-0 in favor of the Cougars.
Fran Lucado coaches the Cardinals and Ed Rose the Cougars.
In boys under 10 group, the Sharks beat the Tornado, 4-1.
The only goal made by the Tornado was on a penalty kick.
Most of the game was played near the Tornado goal box. All
four Shark scores were made by Scott Woolley with assists by
Chip Stone and Doug Bartlett. Goalies for the Sharks, Scott
Kimberling and Shawn Warner saw very little action. Good
kicking was done by Rick Myers, David Galvan and Shawn
Warner.
The Sharks look forward to a winning season. The boys
will have as a new coach Bill Beaubian. Former coach, Pat
Woolley will be moving to Florida where her husband, Dennis,
has been transferred. The boys and their parents are sorry to see
Pat go. She has been a terrific coach. New assistant coach for
the team will be Norbert Galvan.
In the final game of the afternoon, the Cougars (boys under
12) met the Trojans (boys under 14). The game ended in a
1-1 tie.

police to enforce before an officer is hired.
Then police and animal control services
could be expanded as the budget allows,
she said.
The Adams have been Colony residents at
5021 Arbor Glen Road since May 1975. Mrs.
Adams was active in the Volunteer Fire
Department Auxiliary at first, and then became
an organizer and section leader of the Home-
owners Association. She is now the asso-
ciation’s historian.
Mrs. Shearer wants to see the Colony
establish a good police force with the
police being an asset to the community.
She also sees the need for a leash law and
that vaccinations and registration of dogs and
cats be required. Also needed, she said, are
building and zoning codes and a parks and
recreation program.

When you’re putting on a big
social affair, you want to give it
your best. But sometimes a
neighbor can get jealous and
upstage you.
That’s what happened to the
old Scots, who used to crown
their kings sitting on the Stone
of Destiny. This was an an-
cient piece of stone which was
said to be the original Jacob’s
Pillow, mentioned in the Bible,
brought to Scotland by a Prin-
cess of Israel. The Scots re-
garded the Stone as very im-
portant indeed.

. lease taxes, Mrs. Shearer said.
She said that the first City Council should
encourage retail businesses to move into the
lony so residents would be spend their
ioney at home plus increasing the tax vase.
“There’s lots I want to accomplish,’’ she
id.
Mrs. Shearer, 32, is a housewife now. She
was women’s editor for the Suburban News
in Farmers Branch in 1969. She is president
of the Lewisville Area Council of PTAs and
is a past president of Central PTA in
Carrollton.
She and her husband, David, have resided
at 5109 Pemberton Lane since January 1976.
They have a son, David, and a daughter,
Shanna.
Candidates for mayor are Luis Guerrero and
John Carlsen.
Others seeking City Council seats are
Dick Weaver, David L. Dall, Earl Weaver,
Rick Chadwick, Bill Longo, Dan Riggs, Joe
Gaulden and Mark Coats.

But so did the English. King
Edward I wanted to take Scot-
land over and he marched his
Army north and conquered
some of the country. The Eng-
lish got as far as the town of
Scone (pronounced “Scoon”),
where the Stone of Destiny was
kept for coronations.
Edward I had the Stone
taken to Westminster Abbey in
London, where it was set under
the Coronation Chair.
In 1950, the Teacher’s Scotch
Information Centre points out,
a group of Glasgow University
students removed the Stone
from Westminster Abbey and
took it back to Scotland. It was
kept hidden for a while and
then returned to London. But
some Scots say that the Stone
which went back to London
was an imitation one, and
that the real Stone of Destiny
is still in the Western Isles
of Scotland.
