Prayer Meeting and Choir

Director, Little Elm
Community Education
We have just completed our second week of the 1977 winter
Community Education program and we invite you to come on
over and take part in any of our classes and activities.
The mini-course this week is Children and Discipline and
we know that none of us need it as we all have perfect
children but maybe you would like to take part in the
discussion and give your friend a few pointers. This class is
being led by Dr. Frances Mayo and Dr. Della Thomas. Both
these ladies hold PhD degrees, Dr. Mayo is a psychologist and
Dr. Thomas a counselor.
Open Gym is Friday night and we invite you to come on in
for a rousing volleyball game with many of your friends and
neighbors, or perhaps you prefer basketball? Children are no
excuse for not coming as we have a babysitter in attendance.
Cost of open gym is only 25 cents per person, a real bargain
for a Friday evening’s entertainment.
Coming attractions: Beginning Saturday, April 2, Clyde T.
McWilliams will teach an eight-week course in “Fundamentals
of Carpentry.” I know that there are many people in the
community who would like to add a room to their house or
maybe do some remodeling but don’t know the first thing
about how to start. Now is your chance to find out. This
should prove to be a most informative class. Details will be
made public in a week or two.
Everyone I have asked seems to be having a wonderful
time in their chosen activities and last week the size of the
bridge class doubled. The class is not restricted to beginners,
although there are a few, if you need to brush up on your
bridge game we welcome you Thursday evenings at 7 p.m.
in the High School library.
We have many senior citizens involved in classes at this time
and remind all over 62 there are no fees charged for you.
(Only supplies needed for a particular class.)
To date we have had approximately 180 persons taking
part in one way or another in our activities.
For any information call Grace Higgins at 292-1528.

Perhaps it is a result of our population explosion. Perhaps
it is a result of being a mobile society where a family living
in Texas today may live in Oregon tomorrow. Perhaps it is a
result of being disillusioned by the barrage of news reports
dwelling upon the atrocities men commit: murder, kidnapping,
swindling, rape. Whatever the reason, people who appear warm,
friendly, and responsive in the confines of their own home or
in the inner circle of their few friends, appear stone-faced
and distant in public. We have retreated to fenced-in-houses
and unlisted telephone numbers. We look with suspisioh upon
those who can smile in grocery lines or shopping centers.
If our nation is to recover the fiber of its past, we must
rediscover the courage of a public personality, ot being able to
smile at a face we’ve never seen before, to speak to someone
we do not expect to see again, to open a door tor someone
from whom we expect nothing in return.
It was Jesus who said, “I was a stranger and you took
me in.”
