Jacksonville Art League sets show
The Jacksonville Art League has
announced its 31st annual Spring
Art Show, open to all area artists
submitting work in oil and arcylics,
watercolor and pastels and graph-
ics and mixed media. There is no
limit to the number of entries per
artist and entrance fees are $4 per
painting for non-members; $3 per
painting for members and $1 per
painting for students.
A first, second and third place
ribbon may be awarded in each
category with one or more honor-
able mention ribbon and cash
awards of $5 each for Best of Show
in both Professional and Non-pro-
fessional divisions. Other cash
awards afe donated by various city
merchants and organizations. Di-
visions included are Professional,
Non-professional, Advanced, Non-
professiohal Beginner and Student.
Registration will be from 10 a.m.
until 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 at
the east entrance ofthe First Inter-
state Bank.
Judging will begin after 2 p. m.
Thursday, April 30. A critique for
the artists will begin at 7 p.m.
Thursday. The judged show will be
open to the public Friday May 1
during banking hours; Saturday,
May 2 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.;
and Sunday, May 3 from 1 to 5 p.m.
The People's Choice Ribbon will be
awarded at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Box394, Jacksonville or any League
member.
Elm Grove Anniversary set for Sunday
The Elm Grove Baptist Church
Anniversary Celebration will be held
at 3 p.m. Easter Sunday, April 19.
The sermon will be presented by
Elder Chester Whitaker.
Inspirational songs will be pre-
sented by the choir. The welcome
will be extended by Mrs. I. P. Hunter
and the response by Bowens Temple.
Ray Jean McDuff will present the
history of the church.
A devotion will be given by the
deacons and the pulpit devotion will
be given by the Rev. George McDuff,
pastor.
A selection of guest choirs will
include representatives from the
Church of the Living God, Mount
Mariah Plainview, Mount Hebron
Presbyterian, and Blounts Chapel
from Rusk; Pleasant Plain from
Troup and Bowens Temple from
Jacksonville.
Announcements will be given by
Betty Christopher and the offering
will be taken by church deacons.

Cornelius, March 25 in Houston.

Peyton Eaton
Tina and Perry Eaton announce
' the arrival of a son, Peyton, at 2:12
a.m. Tuesday April 7. He weighed
seven pounds and 13 ounces and
measured 20 inches.

Gerald Daugherty won a
scorecard playoff to capture top
honors in Saturday's Par Three
Tournament held at Birmingham
Golf course in Rusk. Daugherty
shot a four over par 58 to tie with
three other players. Kelley Ball
finished strong to land in second
place, while Jan Pate shot even
par on the back nine to fi nish third.
Mark Birkelbach carded a 58, but
finished fourth.
The rest of the scores in the cha m-
pionship flight were Mark Raiborn
59, Doyle Rasberry 61, Sam
Raiborn 62, Dan Lade 63, James
Raiborn 64, Bret Nation 64 and
Charles Ray Peters 65.
The first flight winner was Eric
Henslee who shot a 31-27-58 to
win by two shtrokes. Deaton Goff
finished second by virtue of a
scorecard playoff with Donny Goff.
Both players shot 60.
Other scores in the first flight
include Kim Lloyd 63, Paul Stanley
63, John Beeson 65, Terry Jones
66, Alan Chastain 66,R.C. Hassell
69 and Roger O'Neal 72.
Sid Danner captured the second
flight title with a 63, two strokes
better than Jim Roach's 65.
Waymon Daniels also shot a 65,
but finished third.
Rounding out the second flight
were Larry Hassell 68, Don Goff 70,
Steve White 73, Chuck Wyatt 74,
Dennis Morris 75 and Pat Henslee
76.
The third flight winner was Paul
Cox with a 65. Cox took a one stroke
victory over Fred Lunsford. In third
was Bill Lyon with a 72.
Finishing out the flight were Ed
Jones 72, Nell Kennedy 80, and
Marilyn Beeson 82.
The big winners of the day how-
ever, John Beeson and R.C. Hassell.
Both players recorded a hole-in-one
worth $500 each.
Beeson used a 8 iron to ace the
135 yard number 2 hole. Witnessi ng
the shot were Marilyn Beeson, Nell
Kennedy, Kim Lloyd and Dennis
Morris.
Hassell got his hole-in-one on the
80 yard number 4 using a pitching
wedge. Alan Chastain and Larry
Hassell witnessed the shot.
Thirty-six players participated in
the tournament. Management
would like to thank everyone who
played. All area golfers are invited
to take their shot at $500 every
Tuesday during the scramble. En-
try fee is $5 for members and $7 for
