The gift-making custom was inspired
by sentiment. Express the true senti-
ment of Christmas in gifts to those you
love—send photographs.
The Ladies Auxiliary of Kol Is-
rael Congregation is entering the
second year of its existence, with
Mrs. A. I. Elkins, president; Mrs. J.
P. Ereedman, vice president; Mrs.
Benj. Wade, wife of Rabbi Wade,
secretary, and Mrs. Mose Goldstein,
treasurer. Various committees are at
work to make the organization a
real asset to the synagogue.
Among the active workers for the
success of the organization are in-
cluded Mrs Paillet, formerly of San
Antonio; Mrs. B. Greenberg, Mrs. B.
Kassoff, Mrs. A. L. Karchmer, Mrs.
Mike Goldstein, Mrs. Rosen, Mrs.
Rosenblatt, Mrs. Kasman and others.

The Kol Israel Congregation, of
which Mr. B. Sampson is president,
is planning the erection of a new
community center which will also
house the Hebrew and Sunday
Schools. Mr. B. Dorfman, head of
the community center committee, has
devised a plan for the construction
of a two-story building adjoining the
synagogue that will contain an audi-
torium with a seating capacity of
400; two class rooms, a meeting

■ Since the arrival of Rabbi Benja-
min Wade in-Beaumont as rabbi of
Kol Israel Synagogue, the orthodox'
community is emerging from its long
lethargy. Now Beaumont Orthodox
Jewry can proudly boast of a first
class Talmud Torah and Sunday
School of well nigh sixty children.
The progress made by the children
is almost - miraculous. Whereas six
months ago barely a few children
knew how to at. now the!
Talmud Torah Ti.- a class in 1
Tenach and in the st inly of advanced
Hebrew. A Ceora Misnayes has also
been organized by the rabbi. Rabbi
Wade is enjoying an unqualified
prestige such as was never given by
the community to any other man.
The entire community is rallying in
co-operation with the rabbi, and
therefore gratifying results are be-
ing seen in all of his endeavors.
room, a dining room, billiard room,
social room, library, kitchen and
showers. Closely associated with the
work for the center are Rabbi Ben-
jamin Wade of Kol Israel Syna-
gogue, Mr. Max Horowitz, ex-presi-
dent of the synagogue; Mr. A. Her-
man, vice president; Mr Moses Gold-
stein, J. P. Freedman, B. Greenberg,
chairman of the board of education;
A. L. Karchmer and Mr. Sobel, pres-
ident of the Anshai Chayim Lodge.
A Jewish community center in
Beaumont is a long felt need. The
educational and social activities have
been at a low ebb. 'll is hoped that a
Jewish center will stir up activity
and that Judaism will then be in a
better position to cope with the de-
moralizing factors in its progress
and development.
at the late Friday evening services.
The pulpit has been extended to
young Dorfman by Rabbi Wade on
the occasion of his Bar Mitzvah. The
Bar Mitzvah will also read the Haf-
torah at the Kol Israel Synagogue
Saturday morning, November 6, at
9:30.
