Sigma Theta Chapter of Sigma
Alpha Mu climaxed its Thanksgiving
entertainment with a formal dance
on Saturday, November 27. at the
Austin Country Club, at 9 p.m.
The .reception room where the
guests entered was decorated artis-
tically with palms and chrysanthe-
mums of the fraternity colors of
purple and white. The ball room dec-
orations were also carried out in this
color scheme. Huge baskets of chrys-
anthemums were strewn around the
room and on the mantle piece. A
The San Antonio Chapter of Ha-
dassah will occupy the pulpit of the
Synagogue Agudas Achim Friday
night, December 10th, in observance
of National Sabbath. Those partici-
pating in the program are Mrs. Ed.
Burg, Mrs. Leo Dickerman for the
Junior Hadassah, and Miss Gladys
Ford, who will represent the new
organization, “The Young Buds,” a
branch of the feladassah. Mrs. Alax
Goot, president, will give a short talk
on “Hadassah, What It Is and What
It Does.”
San Antonio has added another
branch to the Hadassah activities,

Miss Fannye Smith entertained
Tuesday with a bridge of unusually
attractive appointment compliment-
ing Miss Annette Prensky of Hous-
ton. and Miss Nanette Smith, bride-
elect, of the season. Three tables- of
guests assembled for the evening.
For successful scores suitable tro-
phies were awarded. The honorees
were presented gifts of lingerie. An
appetitzing two fours dinner was
served.

After a long and useful life on
this earth God has taken home to
rest the sweet soul of Mrs. Rachel
Rivk-Mehl, who was spared to those
near and dear to her for eighy
years She was a real mother in Is-
rael, living for her family, all of
whom she reared to serve and love
their faith.As peacefully as she lived
on this earth, so peacefully she fell
inte that eternal slumber from
which no mortal soul awaketh. She
is survived by her husband, S. Mehl;
one daughter, Mrs. Eva Hurwitz, and
four sons, Abe M., Israel N., Meyer
and B. Max. Also 12 grandchildren
and one great-grandchild. Furneral
services were held at the residence,
2118 Fairmont Avenue, on Tusday
afternoon, November 30th, at 2:30
o’clock, with interment in Hebrew
Rest of Congregation AhavathSho-
lom.
TAU DELTA PHI FRATERNITY
GIVES FORMAL FOR 150 GUESTS
The Tau Delta Phi held its first
forntal dance Wednesday night, No-
vember 24th, in the Driskill Hotel
ballroom. The-affair began at 9 and
continued until 1. Mr. Abe N. Her-
man, president of the fraternity, led
the grand march, honoring Miss Fan-
dassah," the first of its kind in —
Texas; taking in girls from the ages
of 11 to 15. The purpose of the club
is to be an auxiliary to the Junior
Hadassah. Their feature will be a
cultural program. The elub was or-
ganized December 5th, by Mrs. Max
Goot with a charter membership of__
25. Officers elected were: Dorothy
Sacks, president; Gladys Ford, first
vice president; Libby Alterman, sec-
retary; Lillian Alberts, treasurer;
Hortense Adler, parliamentarian. A
meeting will be held next Sunday,
December 12th, at 3 o’clock in the ,
vestry rooms of the Synagogue
Agudas Achim.
The Sunday School children of L
Agudas Achim contributed very gen-
erously with their “Chanukah mon- __
ey” towards the free penny lunches
in Palestine, having received $11.74
from the contributions. The Hadas-
sah takes this means of thanking the
teachers for their splendid co-opera-
tion.

his niece, Mrs. M. Epstein, arrived
Wednesday to spend the winter here;

Mrs. Morris L. Swartzberg of Fort
Worth, led the cotillion. Both are
past students of the University. Mrs.
Swartzberg wore a white dross trim-
med in rhinestones with accessories
to match. She carried a corsage of
pink rosebuds. During the cotillion
all the lights were turned low except
the lighted fraternity insignia, which
made the decorations very effective.
Each lady guest received a beauti-
ful silver vanity embossed with the
fraternity monogram.
Trents orchestra of the Adolphus
Hotel of Dallas furnished the music.
“The Dream Girl, of Sigma Alpha
Mu" and other specially arranged
music was play, d during the evening.
At a late hour a luncheon was
served to a hundred and eighty
guests of Austin. They were Dean
and Mrs. V. I. Moore, Dr. arid Mrs.
