ment supplementing the one of Mr.
Marshall on the progress made so far
in the organization of this Commis-

Mr. Stein states that the “raison
d’etre” of the Commission is not to
discuss abstract questions of princi-

problem of "continuing, extending
‘and—where necessary—improving
the contsructive work which is being
carried out in Palestine under Jew-

Mr. Stein’s statement follows:
“From a Zionist point of view
there is every reason to be satisfied

BORSCHOW REPULSES HOSPI-
TAL TEAM, 3-0, IN FAST GAME
While most of Houston Y. M. H.
A. rooters were in Galveston enjoy-
ing the surf, Reuben Borschow hurl-
ed his third straight victory for the
“Y” team, when he pitched a magic
brand of ball, defeating the Houston
Shoe Hospital, TO, only allowing
them one lonely hit, in the six frame.
This timely win places the “Y” team
in a tie with the sole savers for high
honors in the Sunday Morning
League.
The “Y” team garnered in six hits
while Reuben Borschow slammed out
a double and Aronstein tallied a trip-
le to aid in the victory. Borschow
struck out 12 men, and at no time
during the affair was he in danger.
Leo Karkowski and Abe Rubenstein
together with Reuben Borschow each
scored a run to smother the sole-
savers. Greenburg, and Manager Ar-
uOld Burscliow weii; among the heavy
stick wielders of the morning, while
Reuben Borschow was the only man
on the team to hit J. Costa's offering
for more than one bingle.
The Young Men’s Hebrew Associa-
tion team has convinced the Jewish
community that they have a team
worthy of support, so if any of you
haven’t seen the natty “Y” boys all
dressed up in their uniforms in ac-
tion, don’t fail to see them tie up
with the Saragusa nine Sunday, May
29th. And “watch their smoke” when
they gain the top notch in their
league.
THe Y. M. H. A. team needs co-
operation andsupport to produce a
winning tem,o far they have not
been afforded the support they de-
serve, when they take the field
against the Saragusa team on May
29th, come out and root for your
team and put them on top.
Leon Dorfman has been released
from the team, and Max Kline has
signed up for the Association boys,
and it is hoped they will continue
a winning team. Don’t forget May
29th, “leadership bound.”

visors to the Commission includes a
number of specialists of high dis-
tinction in their respective fields
and their investigations cannot fail
to provide the Commission with ma-
terial for a weighty and authorita:
tive report. These investigations will
necessarily take some considerable
time and it will probably be some
months at the least before the Com-
mission is ready to publish its find-
ings. No time however will be lost
and ther is every reason to hope that
the first detachment of experts will
be at work in Palestine within the
next few weeks.
“I need hardly add, that the raison
d’etre of the Commission is not to
discuss abstract questions of prin-
ciple, but to deal with the practical
problems of continuing, extending,
and—where necessary—improving

most advantageous use of its re-
sources in accordance - with the best
advice obtainable from trained

“I think I can say with confidence,
that on this point there is no dif-
ference of opinion between the two

who recently won the Texas Amateur
golf tournament at San Antonio, is
a member of the Y. M. H. A. golf
team of the Alamo City, who are go-
ing to arrange a 72 hole match with
their Houston brothers. This youth-
ful golfer from SanV Antonio has
showed all Texas that Jews can be
successful in any sport they want to
enter. The I. K. X. showed them in
Houston, Benny Leonard showed the
world, Joe Greenstein will show
New York his prowes as a strong
man, and along comes Harold Cohn i
to show the “Y” a few pointers.
Cohn was a member of the Rice In-
stitute golf team who invaded the
tournament for college teams at
Dallas, Texas, but who were defeat-
ed by the.strong Texas Christian
University, who played invincible
golf to win through the finals over
a large field.
Well, Cohn was the “dark horse”
of the tournament, same as George
Young who swam the Catalina Is-

a non-stop flight from New York to
Paris. All youths, masters of their
game, let us hope for a better Y.

VIEWING THE Y. M. H. A. NEWS
By Maurice R. Karkowski
Memorial Day
May 30th is Memorial Day, the
day when “Old Glory” droops at
half- mast in reverence to her depart-
ed martyrs. In the late world war,
thousands of Jewish boys fought for
their country,, some returned, ■ the
suls of others departed on the bat-
tlefields of France. The following
might well be said of them:
"He turned his back on. youth,
love, life, and drew his weapon for
world freedom—Brave and true, and
what he fought and died for leaves a
heritage to you.”
This inscription is on the monu-
ment of Nathan Louis Pizer, first
Jewish boy to lose his life for his
country from our city.
There were many Jewish boys who
lost their lives for their country
from or city, but I have selected
Pizer as he was an officer during
his life of the Jewish Literary So-
ciety and his father, Sam Pizer, is
custodian of the Y. M. H. A. at pres-
