Play to Be Presented by Young Mac-
cabees of Temple Beth El
The Young Maccabees of Beth El
is the first young Judaea club to
be chartered in Houston. On Sun-
day the 25th, at 6:00 p. m., they will
present a play called "The Macca-
bee’s Cure” at Temple Beth El, in
costume. This has been coached by
Cantor Kushell and Dr M. S. Schech-
ter, the Hebrew instructor. A nom-
inal admission will be charged and
Hadassah will broadcast an inter-
ing program on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at
' T:30 p\“ m“overStation WE Ah, Mrs.
Irma L. Lindheim, the National pres-
/dent of Hadassah, will give a talk
on her recent trip to Palestine, and
Myro Glass, well known baritone,
will render a program of Palestinian
folk songs, accompanied by Mrs.
Frank Cohen.
Mrs. Lindheim visited the hospi-
tals and clinics in Palestine and made
an intensive study of the health work
which is Hadassah’s specific task in
the Holy Lund
Mrs L.indheim said on her return
from Palestine: "The work of Had-
assah demonstrates what can be ef-
fected when not only money but men
and methods are supplied through
the applied interest of the investor.
In the Hadassah Medical Organiza-
tion of Palestine, the fifty thousand
junior and senior members of Had-
assah in America have created an
instrumentality which brings healing
and health to tens of thousands in
Palestine. Through the high standard
of medical work which they have
established and the sound adminis-
tration methods upon which their
work is founded they have made
• themselves vital factors in the up-
building of the land.
"Hospitals, clinics, health centers,
preventive education, as well as cura-
tive methods, have made the medi-
cal work of Hadassah the outstand-
ing contribution of American Jewry
to Pafestine."
The program will be broadcast

A survey of Hadassah member-
ship growth during the last five years,
■ shows -a- steady increase aed -e susses
ponding widening out of work in Pal-
estine. In 1922, Hadassah showed an
enrollment of 11,000 members; in
1923 ,15,000; in 1926, 35,000; and
in 1927 Hadassah membership—-sen-
ior and junior, has grown to 43,000.
Healthy as such growth is, encour-
raging as is the accomplishment it
represents, Hadassah is not satisfied.
The thousands of Jewish women who
stand apart' from our work in Pal-
estine, must be brought into the
circle of Hadassah and interested in

to again have the pleasure of listen-

one of its kind may occur not more
than once in a generation. The Con-

the payment of the last note on its

the occasion. Organized in the Fifth
Ward over a score of years ago, to
supply a religious center for the
Jewish residents of the North side
of the city, the congregation after
these many years of consistent ef-
fort and labor has at last realized
the happy moment in its existence
whereby all of its indebtedness has
been paid and the mortgage on its
synagogue has been raised by the
payment of the last note of six hun-
dred dollars during the past week by
its officers. In commemoration
of this joyous event a special musi-

prepared. Promptly at 5:30 o’clock
