The B’nai B’rith Library in Jeru-
salem, made possible through an ap-
propriation of the executive commit-
tee of B’nai B’rith and directed by
the Jerusalem B’nai B’rith lodge, is
a treasure house of Hebrew and
Yiddish literature. It houses some
12,500 volumes most of which are in
Hebrew.
The library was about to be aban-
doned when the Hebrew University
opened its own library several miles
from the city of Jerusalem. In re-
sponse to a request from the Jeru-
salem lodge, B’nai B’rith appropri-
ated the funds necessary to continue
the city library without which many
aged Jews would have been deprived
of library facilities.

The largest assemblage of mem-
bers that ever attended a business
meeting of Beth El Congregation,
received with great enthusiasm the
annual reports of the officers and
trustees of Beth El at the annual
joint meeting of the congregation
and Women’s League, held last Sun
day evening at Montefiore Hall. The
president of the cangregation, Simon
Lewis, was warmly acclaimed, as
were Morris Rauch, the vice presi-
dent, and Robert Kaplan, the treas-
urer, for their active devotion to the
welfare of Beth El resulting in the
strengthening of the membership
and support of the institution during
the past y ear. Mr. D. Frosch, re-
porting for the ritual committee, and
Mr. B. Juran, for the religious school
board, described the constructive
work that has b een done in the serv-
ices and the religious educational ac-
tivities of the children, under the
able leadership of Rabbi Colish. Mr.
Lewis, summing up his annual rsport
paid tribute to the rabbi, saying:
“Inspired by the able and sincere
guidance of our spiritual leader,
Rabbi Colish, and assisted by his
masterly organizing work in various
activities of out congregation, the

It is particularly gratifying that
