The 23rd annual meeting of
rhe Houston Chapter, American
Jewish Committee, will be held
Sunday, June 8, at the
Westwood Country Club. Dr.
Bernard Farfel was selected by
the Awards Committee, chaired
by Reuben Askanase, to be the
1969 recipient of the Max H.
Nathan Award. Mr. Askanase, a
National Vice-Chairman of the
AJC, wll present the award to
Dr. Farfel.
The award is presented
annually to “that individual
residing in the southwest who
has performed most
meritoriously in the cause of
human relations.” Other
recipients of the award have
been William P. Stevens, former
editor of the Houston Chronicle,
Simon Sakowitz, I. Weiner, Joe
Weingarten, Reuben Askanase
and Bishop John L. Morkovsky.
Rabbi Marc H. Tanenbaum
will be the principal speaker. He
is the National Director of AJC’s
l n t e r r e l i g iou s Affairs
Department and one of the
nation’s leading rabbis.
Recently, a modern historian
writing in Commentary
magazine, characterized Rabbi
Tanenbaum as “the leading
College of Podiatric Medicine on
May 17. Dr. Gerbert received his
B.S. degree from Texas A&M
University in 1965 and has been
living with his wife in San
Francisco during his four years
in podiatry school. During that
time he has been selected as a
member of Who’s Who Among
Students in American Colleges
and Universities and has served
as President of the American
Podiatry Students Association.
He will intern at
Highland-Alameda County
General Hospital in Oakland,
California beginning July 1st. He
then plans to pursue a surgical
residency program before
returning to Texas to open a
practice.
