EL AL SALES MANAGERS
NEW CAMPAIGN BASED ON
OLD TESTAMENT IDEA
Baruch Lilo, recently
appointed by El Al Airlines as its
Sales Manager for North
America is discovering that the
Bible contains some promising
ideas about increasing sales for
his company.
A nationwide sales campaign
based on a Biblical injunction
and directed at rabbis and their
congregations through El Al’s
fourteen regional district sales
offices, promises to become one
of the airline’s most successful
sales efforts in years.
In Biblical times it was the
sacred Mitzvah of every Jew to
make the Aliyah to Jerusalem at
least on three occasions every
year, during the feast of
Passover, the Feast of Shavuot

at those times. “No issue should
be made of the possible absences
of these students on Jewish

action was the result of
representation made by the
Rabbinical Association of
Greater Miami which released a
Jewish calendar through Rabbi
Irving Lehrman, chairman of its
religion and school committee,
and Rabbi Solomon ’ Schiff,
executive vice-president. The
calendar gives precise
information on the holidays and
their observance by the three
brances of Judaism. It has been
distributed to teachers and
principals throughout the Dade
County school system, to the
Broward and Monroe County
school systems and to the
University of Miami and
Miami-Dade Junior College.

REEL ONE—Confidence pays
off . . :
Handsome dark-eyed Norm
Miller has been on the verge of
making it BIG in the major
leagues for the past four or five
years, but he always lacked
confidence.
Right now the Jewish lad
from California is going great
guns for the Houston Astros and
has virtually nailed down the
right field spot ahead of Jesus
Alou.
The 23-year-old Miller at press
time is hitting .284, the second
best batting mark for the Astros.
He is doing a yeoman job afield
also and has finally got the
confidence it takes to stay a
regular.
Manager Harry Walker is one
of Miller’s greatest boosters.
“Miller has a great swing and
stance at the plate. All he

Full Recognition Of

MIAMI, FLA. (JTA)-The
Dade County School Board has
instructed school heads to give
full recognition to major Jewish
and the Feast of Succot.
Lilo, a hard-driving burly
six-footer who looks more like a
tackle for the Jets, has taken this
Biblical injunction and applied it
to latter-day travel to Israel, via
El Al, of course.
“Project El Aliya” suggests to
rabbis and their following a
modern version of the ancient
obligation of a pilgrimage to
Jerusalem and Israel. The rabbi
is asked to form a group and
lead it to Israel in fulfillment of
‘he ancient biblical command.
Dozens of rabbis have responded

The well-dressed Milter, who
got married in the off season,
plans to make Houston his
year-round home. Recently he
signed his B’nai B’rith
membership with Pasadena’s Sol

inducted into the Jewish
