A most sueeessful Red Cross venefit
was given st the home of Mr. and Mrs.
S. R. Norwood on Prairie Avenue Turn
day afternoon' and evening. The house
was prettily decorated with fern* and
pink and yellow chrsanthemums, aad
* splendid musieal program was ren-
dered by Misses Hattiln West, Me-
Hanahan and Tera Bartley and Mes-
dames H. 8. Wilson and Earl Kennard.
Many games were played and a good
time reported by all who attended. A
delicious salad eourse waa served and
•bout $75 was taken in for the beflefit
of the local chapter of the Red Cross.

To make a night light with phospho-
rus, place a piece of phosphorus about
the size of a pen in n long glass bottle.
Fill the bottle nhont one-third full of
olive oil, heated to the boiling point,
and cork tightly: When light is need-
ed, take out the cork nnd allow the
air to enter—then recork the bottle.
The empty space in the bottle will be-
eme lumingus. When the light be-
comes dim, uncork the bottle for a few .
seconds.
