nesday evening for a short stay.
EARLY SUNDAY ACCIDENT
A car traveling south on Main

Wool and Mohair Judging
It is wool and mohair judging
time again and Kendall County
4-Hers have been working out
for a counle of weeks for the
upcoming contests. 4-H mem-
bers trying out for the teams
are Dennis and David Molden-
hauer, Eddy Schmidt, Lewis
Schuchardt, David Soell, Kris
Kohls, Bud Bowman, Wayne
Noll, Dennis, Charles and Jerry
Wiedenfeld, Robert and J. P.
Schmidt, Jimmy Klemstein, Ron-
nie Theis, Matt Cravey, David
Marquart, Kenneth Flach, Rich-
ard Sill, Charles Seidensticker,
Russell Noll, David Masters and
Robert Fellows. This is the larg-
est group we have ever had and
they are all working real hard.
Workouts are held at The Com-
fort Wool and Mohair Pool. We
are very appreciative of the help
that the Comfort Wool and Mo-
hair Co. has given us by letting
us use wool and Mohair fleeces
for training.
A practice contest was held
at San Angelo College on Satur-
day, April 15. A total of over 40
teams participated in the con-
test. A Kendall County team of
Dennis and David Moldenhauer,
David Soell and Eddy Schmidt
placed third in wool judging and
sixth overall. David Soell was
the 4th high individual in mo-
hair judging and 8th high over-
all individual. The judgers all
made exceptionally high scores
for this early in the season.
They also participated in a
range judging contest at San
Angelo. The only placing indivi-
dual was Charles Wiedenfeld,
who placed 2nd in the range
placing.

CONSERVATION
DISTRICT NEWS
Completes Pipeline
Paul Dreiss, ranching north-
east of Comfort, recently com-
pleted laying a pipeline for live-
stock water. The pipeline
supplies water to a trough (
placed in another pasture from <
the location of the well and ex-
isting water.
Dreiss realizes that ample
water distribution is essential to
a ranching operation. He is
planning additional water deve-
lopment on other parts of the
ranch to secure better livestock
grazing distribution. (
Rests Rangeland
Harvey Duennenberg has two
pastures resting on his ranch
east of Boerne. Duennenberg
makes a practice of resting a
pasture each year. He realizes
that grasses must have periods
of rest in order to produce to
their full capacity.
Stockwater Pond
Los Ricos Pobres Ranch As-
sociation has recently completed
a stock water pond on their
ranch east of Comfort. This
pond was located on part of
their rangeland where no stock
water was available. A much
better distribution of grazing
of the native grasses on the
ranch can be obtained by the
addition of this pond.
Delayed Benefits
Fenceline contrasts show up a
tremendous difference between
pastures -that were rested last
fall and those not rested even
though both received approxi-
mately the same amount of use
this past winter. Grasses on the
fall deferred pastures have more -
than doubled the growth despite
the extremely dry conditions.
It must be understood that all
pastures cannot be rested in the
fall, but this points out the ad-
vantage of providing a fall rest
to at least one pasture each
year.
Opportunity for Small Farmers
to Increase Social Security
Credits
Small farmers hear a lot of
talk about forms, net profit, op-
tions and so forth. It sounds
like it is hard to get social se-
curity credit as an independent
farmer, but it is really not.
For additional information
vou can obtain a Social Security
pamphlet “Self-Employed Farm-
Lecturing his son on thrift
and hard work, the father said:
“Son, when I was your age I
carried water for a gang of
bricklayers.”
“I’m proud of you, Dad,” the
son said. “If it hadn’t been for
your pluck and perseverance, I
might have had to do some-
thing like that myself.”
The young husband wrote
home from his new job, saying:
“Made foreman—feather in my
cap.” A few weeks later he
wrote again, saying: “Made
manager—another feather in my
cap.” After some weeks, he
wrote again, saying: “Fired—
send money for train fare.”
H i s wife unfeelingly tele-
graphed back: “Use feathers
and fly home.”
