with a walk. Gardetto moved Keller to
second on an infield grounder. Next,
Roger Henarie scored Keller on an
error which put the Rattler outfielder
on second. Henarie advanced to third
on Rodney Sullivan's fly out. Once
again, Garcia threw away another pitch
to score Henarie and give the Rattlers
a 5-1 lead.
The fourth inning contained the fatal
pill which Gary Gardetto administered
with one swing of the bat. After Kevin
Hays singled and scored on Dixon's
RBI, Brian Davenport walked and
Keller singled to set the stage for
Gardetto's heroics. Garcia fell behind
in the count on Gardetto and the
native Wisconsin sent the pitch over
the left-center field wall. The Rattlers
led by a score of 9-2.
The Rattler starter, Chuck Yon,
exited the game in the sixth inning.
The Rattler hurler pitched five strong
innings before he was relieved by
Mark Pietz. Pietz set down the Stags
in the sixth before Gardetto came on
for his encore performance. Once
again, Davenport walked and Gardetto
sent a pitch over the left field wall. The
Rattler first baseman finished the
game with 5 RBI's and extended the
Rattler lead to 11-2.
The Rattlers were able to score two
more times while pitcher, Mark Pietz,
closed the door on any Concordia
rally. The Rattlers banged out 11 hits
while Rattler pitching scattered 8 hits
while only giving up two runs._________

Gary Gardetto, last year's Brother
Gittenger award winner, is well on his
way to another outstanding season as
the Rattler's first baseman.
Gardetto, a junior, is an English
Communication Arts major with a 2.7
GPA. His first goal would be a career in
professional baseball. However, the
native Wisconsin, plans to be prepared
if necessary by combining a
communications backround with his
knowledge of athletics in a field
relating to public relations within
athletic franchises.
Last year, in addition to receiving an
award for hitting the most RBI's (40)
during the season, Gary was named All-
District 3rd baseman. Since then, he
has made the move from 3rd base to
1st base. Gary feels comfortable in his
new position which began as simple
observation during the early part of the

Gary Gardetto figures to be a key element in the Rattler's
quest for an NAIA championship. Photo by Scott Hermosa
seems to have adjusted well.
Head Coach Charlie Migl feels Gary's
transition has been a smooth one that
can only be accredited to his flexibility.
Migl adds, "Gardetto is a fine player,
very coachable, and a good team
member as well as an individual."
Gary feels the Rattlers have had bad
luck in the past post-season playoffs,
but he is optomistic that this year's
predominately veteran team can
surpass the playoffs, and perhaps
reach the NAIA World Series.
Gary's optomistic attitude can be
seen in his outlook on life both on and
off the field. He remarks, "Always try to
be the best you can be, play every
game like its your last, and never be
satisfied with being second best."
If Gary continues to work with this
attitude, the Rattlers can expect great
things from him throughout the
coming season.

Gary Gardetto punished
Concordia Lutheran pitching as the
slugger led the Rattlers with two
homeruns which contributed to the 14-
2 pounding of Concordia last Friday at
V.J. Keefe field.
The Rattler starter, Chuck Yon, set
down the Stags in the first inning while
the Rattlers managed to gain a 1-0
edge in their half of the first. The
Rattlers' Mike Dixon walked and stole
second. Later, he scored on a wild
pitch which broke the tie.
In the bottom of the second inning,
Jimmy Garcia started the offense with a
single to left field. Next, Mando Pena
hit a stubber off the plate but
Concordia's pitcher, Mark Garcia, threw
wild to first base which scored Garcia
and put Pena on third. Then, Rodney
Sullivan scored Pena on a sacrafice to
center field which lifted the Rattlers to
a 3-0 lead.
Concordia came back in the third
inning with a two out rally started by
Jesse Ayala. His single accompanied
by a Barry Blackwell walk put Yon in his
first jam. Next, Concordia's J. Scott
Bradley loaded the-bases with his
single to right field. Yon walked the
next batter to give the Stags their first
run of the game. However, Yon came
back to end the inning by striking out
Kevin Luersen.
The Rattlers picked up two
insurance runs due to Concordia's
miscues. Rattlers' third baseman,
Steve Keller, started the third inning
